Re: Dieseling + backfiring + rough/searching idle

The EGR is pretty much disconnect the two vacuum lines and cap them and see if it improves at all. The brake booster will be a rather big line going from the booster to either the valve cover or the carb somewhere, I outlined it in blue, it has the white one way check valve on it (which sometimes sn...

Re: Dieseling + backfiring + rough/searching idle

Yeah but the carb would just be worn out. They are very complicated devices!

Re: Dieseling + backfiring + rough/searching idle

Wish I had the money for a new carb. By "new" I mean "junkyard used" as there are no more new ones! http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?userSearch=int&userPID=1000&userLocation=All+States&userIMS=&userInterchange=BE%40AA&userSide=&userDate=1985&userDate2=1985&dbModel=73.27.1.1&userModel=Toyo...

Re: Dieseling + backfiring + rough/searching idle

I would swap to a known good carb if you haven't already. I had a tercel that would run like crap, diesel, not idle, backfire, etc, and a "new" carb fixed her right up! Also could try bypassing the EGR by disconnecting the vacuum line and capping it. Could also bypass the AAP I never had that work r...

Re: 1985 4WD Tercel Deluxe

Tercel Wagons can take a long time to sell, as it takes the right person at the right time at the right place to want one, and even then I've had people fly cross country to buy one!

An auto T4 is still way better than no T4.
What - he - wrote!
If you do not drive much on the highways (high RPMs), it should be eminently suitable.

Oh we took two auto T4's all over the place, 70-80 MPH at high RPM's and they were fine!

Some people just can't or won't drive a manual. I had no problem with the 2-3 auto Tercel 4WD's (well one was a FWD).

I would say go for it and you can always resell it later. Or convert it to a MT if you get really motivated.

Re: 80ish mph. Anyone else get er purring?

I did GPS confirm my various high tercel speeds, so there's that.

I can also confirm the auto hitting 80-85 and not liking it.

Our old Buck handled 80-85 on the Utah interstates just fine, even loaded!

The fast idle and choke are actually two different, but connected, systems.

Re: Snopocolypse Seattle: 2019

but that's partly because I don't bother doing big jobs on my own vehicles anymore -- I do miss the simplicity of the T4, without a doubt. Ah, we are the same way now. I'll replace an alternator, spark plugs, radiator, thermostat or a CV axle, but the timing belt on a transverse engine? Off to the ...

Also, you most likely have the legendary 5vz-fe v6. Damn good engine. Even better supercharged ;)
Ah definitely has the V6 instead of the i4. We took her for a drive and the 4runner pulls better than our 1MZ V6 wagon!

Also has the rear diff lock.

Re: 1999 4runner

Since it is a family member, you might get it for a deal, and when it come times to sell it, offer to split what you get over your price when you sell it later. I'm not sure what he bought it for but he put a few thousand in parts in it just for the front end plus timing belt kit and new tires and ...
