Part the idler pulley bolts to?

I may have the chance to get an 84 auto that someone did the timing belt on and got a little hefty tightening the idler pulley up and snapped the boss it bolts into. Does it bolt into the aluminum part that bolts to the front of the engine block or does it bolt into the cast part if the block? Just ...

Re: "Tercel Testimonials"

Some of you old timers might remember me. I know splatterdog will. My Tercel testimonial begins several years ago. I needed something a little better on mileage than my 81 Chev 4X4 (6mpg) to do my 90 mile round trip to work in. I found a 1986 that had been owned from new by the same woman. She drove...

Re: And A Few Years Down The Road...

Gotta keep telling myself "I have it good with Goldie...I have it good with Goldie..." "Hear that, baby?" Tom M. Yeah, but without navigation, abs, stability control, airbag(s),onstar you could get lost, crash into a ditch and die unnoticed or worse! BTW, been a while since I had t...

Re: so I want to take over tercel4wd.com and the forums

A legend to indicate what is what as far as "Topic you've posted in", "New Topic", "Topic you've read", etc would be handy. I'm not familiar with this particular PHP style. I'm used to seeing the yellow and grey check box with a hole in it.

I agree. Like the positioning of the radio better, and those trailer wheels are great!!

That's odd because mine was best at home in the snow. It did much better in low traction situations than it did on dry roads! I'm wondering if there's a possibility something is binding up in your drivetrain causing the problems. Have you tried it in 4WD on gravel? Does it do fine there? I kno...

There was only one owner before me. She used the car to drive to and from work in Bemidji. All highway driving. As far as I know the only thing ever done to the engine was oil and filter changes and the occasional tune-up. I never had it apart, I know that. And I'm fairly certain that was the origin...

Neonsport's got the right idea. If you didn't want to modify the existing engine, you could always mount an Advance DC 6" shunt field motor in a hump built under the passenger's seat, then belt drive it to a pulley on the rear drive shaft. Rewire the controller so that regenerative braking coul...

I just met a guy last night that recently picked up a gold 1986 SR5 4WD. I told him about the site. He's been a die hard drifter for years and just bought the Terc for winter driving and has since fallen completely in love with it. Hopefully he'll be joining up soon and announcing himself as he seem...

Walmart carries it in the household cleaning aisle. If you can wait until Tuesday, I can get you the UPC and Walmart numbers for it so you can tell them to order it if your particular store doesn't have it.

Hey, good to hear the little beastie is still running good!! It's a little monster in the snow, isn't it? I really missed it the last couple days. Although, I don't miss the lack of heat.... :) I just made a run to Dominos for dinner and man, I could have really done with it today. We've got about 6...

A quick and dirty shade-tree method is the "thunk test". Roll the car up on ramps and climb under there. Curl your hand in a fist and hit the catalytic converter with the meaty part of your fist that makes up the pinky knuckle. If your cat makes a hollow "thock" sound much like t...
