I love snagging a running T4WD for under $800. Feels good!

Re: newb looking at a local but rusty '86 t4wd
Talk them down to $800-1000, if you can. Rust sucks, but I've seen an awful lot of cheap T4WDs that, if they're not rusty, have collision damage which is far more annoying to deal with IMO. That one looks pretty straight.

Re: Differences between early and later T4wd?
I see exactly what you mean now - thanks Petros. Any idea on what bulbs the cluster hood takes? I'd like to convert to LED but I've never seen bulbs this small - much smaller than 194. I'm excited to have a tachometer soon!!!

Just that it's not an SR5, with the inclinometer and other nice little features (intermittent wipers, right?) and the sweet SR5 badging on the outside. The DLX is still awesome, no worries.johnvincent wrote:What's bad about the DLX? It'd be good to know as I continue my search.

That's an awesome car - $500 or less of parts will bring it back into safe driveable shape, it looks like.

Re: Differences between early and later T4wd?
Sorry about the dupes. Thanks guys.
As to swapping clusters - why can't I just swap the '84 SR5 cluster and cluster hood into the '85 DLX? They look very similar, but maybe there's something I'm missing?

Re: Value of 88 Tercel Wagon SR5 4WD???
Unless there's some serious emotional attachment to the car, how could an '88 T4WD ever be worth more than $5K or so unless it had zero miles in it and had been stored in a climate controlled container with fluids drained? I love this car, but c'mon - $6K could buy a 2004-2006 Corolla or Civic and t...

Re: Differences between early and later T4wd?
Right on, North.
Will it be possible to swap an 84 SR5 cluster into an 85 non-SR5? I really want a tach! Also, can the inclinometer be properly installed into a non-SR5?

Re: Manual vs Automatic
I've heard it's damn tough finding a manual transmission for the T4WD, since that's what tends to fail catastrophically first.

Can a non-inclinometer model (85+, right?) be fitted with an inclinometer taken out of an 83-84?

Re: Differences between early and later T4wd?
I know I'm bumping an ANCIENT thread, but I figured it's better to do that than start a new one.
Will it be possible to swap the doors from an '84 to an '85? How about the hood? I just got a non-running parts car with body in good shape and I'd like to use it to make my running 85 look a bit nicer.

Re: '84 tercel sr5 4wd - $500 (denver)
I'm picking this one up tomorrow. Still not sure whether I want to try to find a transmission for it (and learn how to swap a transmission at that) or if I want to use it as a parts car - I could really use new doors due to PO collision damage, window trim, rub strips, etc...

Makes sense, thanks Petros. If I posted a recording of my T4WD, would you mind offering your opinion as to if the click you hear is something that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later?

Video/audio of a properly running T4WD
Does anyone have (or can they make!) a video (or audio recording I guess, but these days video is more prevalent) of a properly running T4WD? Mine has always had a quiet-ish "tick tick tick" that varies with engine speed, and I want to make sure it's not something serious - but I'm not sur...
