That makes perfect sense I think I was just expecting the head gasket to look way worse as this is the second time I have overheated the car and I saw your picture of the gasket melted between cylinders. Makes sense that the heat would cause the gasket to lift. Honestly the motor looks pretty ...

so i finally took the head off and the gasket appears to be fine the valves also appear to be fine...i am going to put it back together with a new gasket regardless is it possible that maybe the old gasket is screwed and its just not visible what else could be the problem?

Thanks for the quick reply! I took the spark plugs out and cranked it sure enough coolant...also the uneven cranking you described...makes a lot of sense my father has been telling me that car had a bad cylinder for a while...this will give me a good opportunity to check intake and exhaust valves ...
