The outside of the ring gear is stamped also. Very small but it's there.

Re: 1981 Tercel Part Desperately Needed

Try that shop I sent you the link for. They appreciate older cars and I am sure would be willing to help. Ask them to check if the carb looks gummed up and ask if you can watch so you can learn. Places that don't allow the customers in the back I don't trust. They will throw all this liability crap ...

Re: In line fuse for just the rear Hatch Light?

Drop the assembly out of the ceiling and confirm that you are getting twelve volts to it. The contacts are pretty finicky for the bulbs. The door switches turn on whichever light is selected on 'door'. The rear light is not exclusive to the switch. I can't remember exactly where the contact switch i...

Re: Temp gauge malfunction

It looks like you have a parts car. Try plugging in another gauge. I have found the needles sticking in the past and tapping on the gauge it usually moves. I believe the green plug is a temp sensor for the primitive computers we have on these cars.

Re: Is there really any good way to test a ball joint in situ?

Sometimes you need a pry bar to determine a bad ball joint. The push pull test doesn't always find them. It depends on the type of suspension you have. Here's a link to a video that describes it better than I can write it out. What you need to do is figure out which direction to pry that takes up th...

Re: 1981 Tercel Part Desperately Needed

You Tube is a wonderful tool to use for learning new things. Here is a short video from one particular manufacturer of carb clean that shows you what you can do with the carb installed. You can't hurt anything by doing this and it may improve your idle performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8...

Re: 1981 Tercel Part Desperately Needed

There is another Tercel member in Ontario. Can't think of his name but he is north of Toronto, I think. He may be able to recommend someone. What is the idle speed when in gear and stopped? It may be too low. Or the choke and throttle plate are gummed up and need to be cleaned with carb clean. Or th...

Re: 1981 Tercel Part Desperately Needed

Hi Kamren, Where are you located? Are there no members who live close by to give you a hand? Do you not know anyone who can recommend a mechanic in your area, preferably someone who was born before your car was built. They should have some experience with old cars. I would try the o-ring first. It r...

Excellent video xirdeh, I have noticed the channels sitting in different places but was afraid of breaking the glass to try to reposition them. Also wasn't sure what the correct measurement was.

Check to make sure the thermostat housing is flat before you replace the gasket or else it will still leak.
