Re: Rear Lower Control Arm Same?

Thanks for checking. Yes, that agrees with what I am finding out here also. Any 83-87 T4 wagon should fit. Apparently Corolla trailing arms will not fit our T4 wagons. I have put hours in calling salvage yards in my area (Northeast and East Coast to Baltimore). Unable to get this part around here. I...

Re: Rear Lower Control Arm Same?

48720 16040 is the discontinued Toyota parts number for 1983–84 showing in the online Toyota diagrams. 48720 16030 is the discontinued part number for newer models. I agree with you that the attachment points on both ends are likely identical. Not sure why they changed the part numbers. If you could...

Re: Rear Lower Control Arm Same?

Very helpful to know that the trailing arms are the same for all years. That could make it much easier for me to find one. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!

Rear Lower Control Arm Same?

I need to replace a rear lower control arm on my 83 T4 SR5. I am searching salvage yards on the East Coast. Some internet information suggests that this part must come off of an 83 or an 84, Toyota part number 48720 16040. I am aware that the T4 rear end is the same as the Corolla, so I am guessing ...

Re: Looking for a 4WD front driver side strut tube

Yahoo! I rebuilt the struts with KYB cartridges and got them in by myself. Took the car out for a test drive. I can definitely feel the difference in the ride. Sweet! Actually have functional "shock absorbers" in the front now! This was a big intimidating job for me to do the first time, b...

Re: Looking for a 4WD front driver side strut tube

Hey, just one quick question about how to assemble the new KYB strut cartridges within the strut tubes, so that I can get my daily driver back on the road. My strut tubes are currently full of oil from the OEM cartridges. Should I dump that oil out, or leave it in there when I put the new KYB cartri...

Re: Looking for a 4WD front driver side strut tube

Petros, Thank you so much for this post! That pry bar / 2x4 suggestion I think is going to work. I was starting to get very concerned. My friend Chris came over today to step on the stabilizer bar. Even at 270, with an 80 pound backpack, Chris could not gain the 1 3/8 inches needed to line up the bo...

Re: Looking for a 4WD front driver side strut tube

Sorry guys, but I'm stuck once again. I started putting on the strut tube for the driver's side, but without assistance, I don't see a way to get these bolts in. Attached is a photo of what I'm looking at. Also attached are the instructions from the factory service manual. Working alone, (at150 poun...

Re: Looking for a 4WD front driver side strut tube

I have pulled my front struts off today and I'm now ready to put the parts car struts I recently procured onto my car. Both cars are 83 SR5 4WD wagons. I wanted to get a second opinion to make sure that I'm putting the correct strut tubes on the correct sides of my vehicle. (See attached pictures fr...

Re: Looking for a 4WD front driver side strut tube

Thanks for the help with this, Petros. I was able to remove one of the nuts last night by heating for about 5 minutes with MAP gas. Will do the rest when we swap struts on Monday. Good to know that the way I am proceeding should work. Much appreciated, Dan

Re: Looking for a 4WD front driver side strut tube

Hey guys, Similar problem here. The strut tubes on my 83 4WD are so rusted that I need to replace them. (Nest on tube where spring attaches is going.) Finding these tubes new sounds virtually impossible, plus I am in Upstate NY, with no t4s to be found anywhere. Fortunately I have located a friend o...

Re: Tercel input shaft bearing replacement

Thanks guys. All of this information has been extremely helpful. Allowed me to proceed through the project without difficulty. The system was about 2 quarts low on gear oil. I strongly suspect that was the cause of the bearing noise at cold temperatures. I still have the car up in the air, and I hav...

Re: Tercel input shaft bearing replacement

I am pretty sure I have an input shaft inner bearing issue, and am hoping to resolve this with adding more gear oil today. I am hoping that I'm catching this early enough that the situation has not gotten too bad yet. The only times that I have noticed the noise is when the car is very cold, like 15...
