Re: 1985 Tercel -make offer
Still have her. Couldn't bear to call the junkyard. Two people have looked at her. One wants to use her to enter the "24 Hours of Lemons". Apparently races are held, lots of rules, car value has to be under $500. This person hoped to buy it for $200., gut it, :( put in a Honda engine and g...

Thank you! If you can link this to the Facebook group, that would be nice! I had a Facebook page for my business, but quit using it in 2013. Facebook closed my page a few months ago. I would like to see the car saved. John

1985 Tercel -make offer -SOLD!!!
1985 Toyota Tercel, the automatic transmission needs replacing. As is, non-driving, no smog certificate. The bad: Recently, Went over a curb, car felt rough, but drove  . Checked the axles, seem good. When idling or driving there was a roughness coming up through the transmission area. For t...

Any chance the exhaust is constipated? A plugged up cat can cause a big loss of power under load. john

Re: anyone here watch The Irishman?
We watch a lot of old movies and tv shows at our house. I've always enjoyed episodes of "Emergency" etc., and seeing what cars are on the streets. Usually lots of VW's and old American cars. We also watch lots of BBC, especially the detective shows. I really enjoy seeing old Triumphs, I ha...

Re: after a few years away, I'm back in the wagon game.
Years ago, the front differential on the automatic transmission self destructed. The only replacement I could readily find was a front-wheel drive only transmission. It bolted right up. I'm happy I kept the car on the road. She runs great and passes smog way under limits. Here on the valley floor in...

Hello DLB, It's good to have a car you're excited about! Congratulations on the Corolla! I still enjoy my '85 Tercel. It's a great work car. It has been front wheel drive for a number of years now and no one has asked me to leave the forum:). John

Re: Hard starting in the cold.
I don't know anything about Webers, and it sounds like you went thru the fuel delivery and electrical. I would start, by checking that the spark is strong at each plug. I would pull a plug, ground it to the engine, I use some vicegrips, watch the spark as you crank. Check spark plug color. If spark ...

Hi Dumindu, The valves are easy to adjust. Do you have a workshop manual? They can make a tic tic sound when a little loose. John

Re: Vacuum gauge rapid oscilation
You are correct Dumindu. I had forgotten that your car has excellent compression, which probably means this will be a simple fix once figured out! I use a vacuum gauge infrequently, and have trouble remembering how to interpret the results. Someone on this site will have better ideas. I did read on-...

Re: Vacuum gauge rapid oscilation
Hi Dumindu, I found this info on-line. "If the needle vibrates rapidly between 14 and 20 inches of mercury, but then steadies as rpm increases, you may be dealing with worn valve guides. How fast the needle vibrates is telling of how many valve guides may be worn." Did you try your test at...
