2013 California Smog Test & New Stricter Testing Requirement
Hiya folks:
Have to do the dreaded smog test again this year when I renew my registration. The law changed and the requirements to pass are harder AND they now monitor the STAR stations with a web cam. Nice touch, Big Brother.
So looking for how I can make my car run as clean as possible to pass ...

Thank you so much for all the very helpful information!
Replacing the CV L & R axles completely changed the stability of the car -- no more clunkity clunk sounds when cornering -- even my friends who have ridden in my car notice the difference. Feels solid now and I'm no longer afraid to drive it ...

Questions about numbering, maintenance, fluids...
Hello Tercel'er's :-)
I have a TOYOTA SW (Station Wagon) 4WD DELUXE
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
POWER STEERING
I bought the car new in 1988. Still driving it.
I used to have the owners manual but can't find it.
I think around 145K is when I blew the engine. It was replaced in 06/07 with a Japanese ...

Re: AN IMPORTANT READ! Why never use 4WD mode on dry pavemen
That's the first thing I learned in my owners manual -- never switch on the 4WD on a dry road. I've been super careful about that since I bought the car new in 1988.

Re: Front Wheel Bearing Replacement
UPDATE EDIT: I'm so overwhelmed with this move that for some reason I thought I had the SR5 Model but what I have per my car registration (and a physical check of the car and the insignia) is the 1988 TERCEL SW 4WD DELUXE model with automatic transmission and power steering.

Re: Front Wheel Bearing Replacement
This is the next project I need to get done right away - the car makes the same noises and vibrations as described in the original post. The boots are cracked so my mechanic said it's an axle job -- but I'm not sure what exactly we need -- though I'm sure he does.

Thank you for the kind offer.
The problem I have is time. Should have had this fixed yesterday as I need my car to get around. I would love to have saved $$$ but unfortunately, can not wait until Friday.

Thank you for your reply Petros.
Ideally, just replacing the radiator with an exact match is for the moment, a more ideal solution. I'll run the other solution by my mechanic. If we can't find a replacement radiator that will drop in with all the right connections, we may have to look at the ...
