83 Tercel SR5 4WD $500

Located in Austin Tx. 186,ooo miles. Inclinometer works, but dash panel cover has cracked off. Horn is an aftermarket button I installed. Manual transmission. Has no 4th gear. 4th gear feels like neutral but can be driven without 4th gear. Original exhaust pipe has rusted in half in the middle of th...

http://www.doctoryourself.com/eyesight_II.html My grandpa had macular degeneration and his eyes held up using vitamin E and selenium while his friends deteriorated. He also ran every morning and plays tennis and cardio exercise can protect your eyes against macular degeneration. He probably drinks c...

Re: Mix screw tool

I`m running the stock carb. I ripped my carb apart and rebuilt it with a rebuild kit after dipping it in chem-dip and pulled the mix screw to dip it. Checked the vac. line routing. replaced any suspect lines. I think it's idling rich based on the smell of gas coming out of the tail pipe when it's id...

Broken Horn

I just installed a hot wired button for a horn and figured I`d share. I think this looks better and more accessible then the button horn fixes I see in junkyards or sold at auto stores. First off why I need a horn fix: http://i59.tinypic.com/1zva2qt.jpg The two obvious horn contacts just trigger a b...

Mix screw tool

I recently installed the muffler and noticed it smelling a bit rich. I figure I would turn in the mix screw clockwise to lean it out; but I`m getting tired of my improvised tool of a flat blade bit chocked into a 1/4 inch open end . I`m thinking about an ez just mix screw if there's room aroun...

Re: carb adjustment is skrewed

My manual's final mix table says 1981-1983 Canadian 3A. Then gives a separate table for U.S. 1981-1983 3A-C. Unless it's a Canadian we'll assume you have a 1983 3A-C. to make sure, match it to the Emission control systems diagrams in the back of the fuel and exhaust system section in the pdf. manual...

Re: tail pipe help (solved)

I wire brushed everything for rust then mocked the new 46691 pipe up to find the optimal place to cut to have a straight section off the old pipe running front to back. I cut a kebab skewer to 1 1/2 inch matching the old pipes OD and slid it in passed the new pipes convertor bracket where the intern...

Re: tail pipe help

I have a Federal cat. The thread dlb linked is a Canadian who also has a US non Californian who shortened the pipe 8 inches. Just looking at the side by side comparison I'm certain enough this will work to have ordered the 46691 pipe from autozone, since I can mock it up and return it if it doesn't ...

Re: tail pipe help

Cool, thanks for the help. I actually have the cat. and 2 feet of the intermediate tail pipe past the first bend. Looking at the side by side comparison of tailpipes, it looks like the extra inches of pipe on the canadian version occur before the first bend. I'm guessing I can get away with angle gr...

tail pipe help (solved)

I've never had a tailpipe or muffler and I need a muffler to pass inspection. I was hoping someone could help me determine whether http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1261979&cc=1279155 Walker part# 46691 is compatible with a 1983 Tercel 5 speed manual 4WD sold outside California bef...

Re: front sway bar removal w/ pics

I pulled one using this guide yesterday. -19mm bolts -No jack needed. Junkyard bans them. -before removing the swaybar to x-member, after removing the sway bar end bolts; tap the large washer behind the 19mm bolts with a hammer against the rearmost sway bar bushings. This breaks the rust seal betwee...

Re: Vacuum Check Valve

I can not think of why putting washers on one side of a hollow bolt should make any difference, It was the only thing I changed between two tests. I was hoping it would seat the hole in the banjo bolt into the carb intake better. Gas doesn't leak with the interior washer removed though. Was hoping ...

Re: Vacuum Check Valve

Update: Finally got it running again. After rebuilding and dipping the carb and replacing the fuel pump it still had the same issue of not running unless I poured gas or carb spray down the carb throat. Last time it ran I had done a valve tune with the engine warm. This either changed something to m...

Re: Vacuum Check Valve

http://www.nonags.org/members/nijqk/83FedVacR.jpg I smashed the old piece to see what was inside and it's a filter disk then a small metal partition in the center with a pin hole. Obviously not a check valve. Finally found the above diagram on page 94 and it's #23 (restrictor orifice). Seems to run ...

Vacuum Check Valve

My 83 or 86 3 AC engine was only cranking with gas poured into the carb. throat. I pulled the hollow bolt that runs from the fuel line into the carb and cranked it and caught some gas. Did a burn test and it lit on fire. Pulled the carb to clean it and caught the gas from the bowl. did a burn test a...
