Re: Car and Driver 1983 "Ten Best" List
Perhaps I've gone mad?
Wheel size difference perhaps?
Next time I'm headed north, I'm going to try again and film the results. That was weird. While I was typing that, an ant was walking across my screen at the exact speed of rate I was typing. I think this is a sign.

Restore it is!
Thanks guys!
I've loved tooling around in my car again. Seems that everywhere I park it gets a little dent or scratch though. Stupid Californians.

Great success.
Fired and ran perfect first time of asking. Thank you everyone so much for the guidance and support!
Now I need to work out what the smoke is caused by when I start the car!

Re: Engine death strangeness
compare the movement to the shaft in your old distributor. You can return to picknpull and exchange it for another distributor. Or if the old one is better you can use the old housing and shaft, and swap over the electrical parts from the one from the wrecking yard. You can buy new bearings and sea...

Re: Engine death strangeness
rotational play is normal (part of the advance), but there should be NO side to side play at all, and little to no plung (up and down) play in the direction of the axis of the shaft. If you have some lateral play, it can not be used. but, your old one might be good and you just need to swap the par...

Re: Engine death strangeness
I've never heard of pull-a-part in Oakland. Are you referring to pick and pull? If not please give me some more info. I hate when I can't find a part at pick and pull. It's also cool to know that there is another tercel 4wd owner I. The east bay. I'm in San leandro. Maybe I'll see you around. Oops,...

Re: Engine death strangeness
I hate this. Everything timing/dist related has always been a nightmare for me for some reason. You guys are so fabulous for the help, many thanks. Two things: 1. There is a tiny amount of play in the shaft of the new unit. Is this going to be okay? Also, are these points hosed or is this normal? I ...

Wait, what?
I did a whole 100MPH (GPS) in my T4WD. On a flat and completely empty part of I5 in CA.

Re: Engine death strangeness
Oh. My. God. Pull-a-Part in Oakland is, um, interesting. Everyone was friendly but you can feel a certain vibe there for sure. It's huge and with only the slightest glimmer of order at to where the vehicles are placed. Met this awesome old black gent who loaned me a socket. I think he might have wor...

Re: Engine death strangeness
Hello and thanks for the help! You do have those brakes, huh? We should figure that out one day... In the meantime, the car was running, but with the same issue when it died near my house. I tapped the distributor with a hammer a few times and now it's completely dead. What does this mean? Any idea ...

Engine death strangeness
Hello everyone! Sorry I've been away for so long, excuse any unanswered messages. It's been, erm, a hectic few months, moving state, divorce, all the usual fun. Anyway, I'm in California now. Car was running great, then one day, with no warning, it died while I was driving along at about 50. After s...

Re: The lament of my red T4WD
Who would steal a 25 year old car? charges and penalties are the same for a new car as well as an old one. Perhaps a joy rider. "Modern cars are almost impossible to steal. Older cars are almost impossible not to steal." Joyrider schoolfriend (now very much reformed) on why they would alw...
