Re: $800 - 1987 Toyota Tercel 4x4 Wagon - victoria, bc

I just found a cd player under the passenger seat I forgot about.

Was thinking about possibly finally installing the heated seat element and wiring into the driver's seat.

Runs good, spits some oil on cold start during winter months. Driver's window regulator skips sometimes when the window is ...

My Tercel: the one that gets beat

I finally bought another tercedes at the end of the summer that had shot rear axle bearings. Fixed it and a few minor things but today was the day.

Today was the day I finally took it out for a light duty run to test out the drivetrain and it did well. I suppose now I'll have to consider some more ...

Re: QUESTION ABOUT VAPOR LOCK

These vehicles use a return fuel delivery system with an evap system. The chances of vapour lock are pretty damn slim unless you are running winter fuel right now.

What does the car do when started? Are you sure its not flooded (ie black smoke when it finally runs?) I have seen a lot of carbed a ...

Re: Tercel interchangable parts

Okay so first question is uh oh. I looked on my tercel and it is missing the older standardized axle code too. Mine in the axle portion say 2292. The 292 portion makes sense as its a 2 pinion 4.10 diff. The 2 prefix I have no idea. Perhaps an update to the rule due to the unique 4wd drivetrain?? A ...

Re: Tercel interchangable parts

Wow, lots of feedback!

So just on the note of the diff sizes, the third members can have different numbers of bolts irregardless of the diff used inside. There are two types of s code diff. One has 2 pinions (real crap) and one has 4 pinions (not so crap). By pinions I mean the pinions that hold ...

Re: Tercel interchangable parts

I'm sorry guys but after reading this business about the differentials I have to say that the info here is dead wrong.

The tercels use an "S" code rear differential. Its a 6.38" diff that is of the same design as corollas from 1967-1988. The ae86 (gts) corollas along with early celicas and the ...

Re: DLX 4WD terc in victoria, bc

So I picked up the tercel today. I brought it to the shop and pulled the right rear axle and the bearing fell apart.

Re: OK To Vacate Vapor Canister?

Do not connect that line directly to ANYTHING on the engine. If you have even a slight backfire it will ignite the fuel vapour in the line and thus the tank. Bad.

Also, if you remove the canister and plug the line you will need some sort of vent system. Check summit racing for something used on a ...

Re: Dead Cylinder

You can test the plug wires by misting some salty water over them using a spray bottle. Look for arching, that is bad. Then check the resistance of each plug wire with a dvom. Should be 10,000 ohms per foot but not excessive. Try doing a compression test, it will reveal the condition of the motor ...

Re: DLX 4WD terc in victoria, bc

Petros is right on all that. The only thing that I would add is that the axle seal runs on the bearing retaining collar. So if the collar is pitted then you may as well replace the bearing (comes with a collar). Oh, and never press the collar and bearing off together. This results in a damaged axle ...
