Re: '83 Tercel SR5

What rust? I cleaned and resprayed everywhere where there was rust, whole trunk and around fenders, so it's rust-free except where the damage is. It doesn't actually smoke or 'burn' oil, just have to add about 1/4 qt every 4k or so, i think this is quite impressive for age and mileage. Body damage i...

Re: Replacing front strut cartridges '83 SR5

Yea it was rusty and very stuck. I got new struts today from '87, came home tried to pull the cartridge again and came out, figures. I think maybe all the PB blaster overnight released it. Anyways, i pulled old cartridges from 87 ones, they were KYB gas filled, pretty good stock ones i guess. Insert...

Re: Replacing front strut cartridges '83 SR5

I've tried pulling it out, but it doesn't budge. I also tried to put only the cap on the strut w/o spring and screw it with the screw then bang it out but no success. I thought there was something holding the insert on the bottom. Anyway, i just got a pair of struts from '87 and will try those. Thanks

Re: Replacing front strut cartridges '83 SR5

I'm going to the junk yard today to pull struts off '87 SR5, which i believe have replaceable cartridges, from what i read.
I just wanted to know if they're the same.

I checked the site. I gives me all the models from '83 to '87, so i think it'll work.

Replacing front strut cartridges '83 SR5

Hey guys, so i'm in the midst of replacing strut inserts. I didn't read enough about it and thought that i can just pop new inserts in. But it seems that i cannot just take out the strut inserts. I want to make sure i understand what to do to replace them. 1. Drill an opening on the bottom to access...

Re: Need Tire Size. Bartos lift.

Thanks Arch.
At first i thought they looked a bit "ricey" but now i'm liking them.
Also way better then the donut tires i had before, lifted w/ 13" looked a bit clownish.

Re: Need Tire Size. Bartos lift.

Thanks, Got the rims on craigslist. Was looking around about a week for 14" 4x100 and got lucky.
Don't know the brand, came off of a civic, universal 4x100 & 4x114 patterns. They're very light, the whole wheel and tire was about the same weight, maybe even lighter then my stock 13".

Re: Need Tire Size. Bartos lift.

Thanks for the feedback guys! So i'm currently running 185/65-14 and it makes a difference. Handling is better.
But seems slightly less powered, so now i'm looking for a weber carb :)

Check it out:

Re: Need Tire Size. Bartos lift.

Thanks Petros.
Im thinking about 185/65-14. How do you think this will work, without changing drive ratio?
I don't have anything added to limit how far up the wheel can move.

I have done bartos lift and i'm not sure what can fit.

Anybody out there with bartos lift and 14"rims? Could you tell me your tire size?

I'm thinking 185/60-65

Re: How to put the half shaft back in?

Thanks Tom. I AM using spring compressors :)
I tried holding it in a vice and twisting it off with a plumbers wrench. No good. I think i might get a wrench in that size like 40mm or something, if i find one.
