Re: Vacuum Check Valve
Ah, that is actually a Jet! The one on my various carbs for that specific one is yellow. I'll see if I have a spare. some carbs actually have the "jet" built into that choke breaker port on the carb. Well, it does work the same as a jet, but when I mention a "jet" in reference t...

Re: Vacuum Check Valve
animeracing, which system is the check valve you seek from? there are a few different ones--one for the choke breaker (called a 'jet'), another for the throttle positioner (called a 'VTV'), and one for the manifold vacuum advance (the plain jane 'check valve'). i wonder just how different these thi...

Re: Vacuum Check Valve
I've actually been trying to get one of these restrictor orifice valves for awhile, they were rather expensive at the dealer (somewhere in the $25-35 range, plus shipping) when they were available. I still have the (broken) original, it's marked as AISIN with a number 3D27 stamped into it, and the T...

Re: 1983 SR5 HID conversion? Anyone has it?
The composite lights from the '86+ cars use 9004 bulbs. Besides the fact that the plastic lenses get foggy and cloudy over time, the 9004 bulb, with it's 45W low beam and horizontal filaments, is a pretty poor point source. A 200m rectangular housing with 9003/H4 bulbs will blow the composite/9004 c...

Re: 1983 SR5 HID conversion? Anyone has it?
Those "HID" kits are absolute JUNK, and also completely illegal. Besides that, they are totally unsafe for on-road driving, giving unsafe levels of glare straight into the eyes of oncoming cars. The ONLY reason to get this junk is if you really, really believe other people care what your h...

Re: Favorite aftermarket carb?
The 3A block was likely first intended as the "all around" motor for Toyota's mid-80's lineup, and was the original engine first fitted into the AW11 MR2. However, the 4A block was developed, and with the advent of electronic fuel injection, the 4A-GE was born, and Toyota has it's answer. ...

Re: i need a block
Boring out a 3A-C block to 4A-C specs and beyond is fine, but as mentioned, it can cause problems, and there's (so far) no exact science as to which blocks will handle it and which blocks won't. My personal guess is that it's the later 3A blocks with the problems, but then again it could be the othe...

Re: hood/bug deflector?
If you just want to protect against the paint chips (the front of these hoods do seem to get them), why not just use the 3M clear-bra protector film? You can probably pick up a scrap piece from a shop that installs them for free. The only thing is, I've heard of installs that went bad, or where it p...

My experience so far is the radiator fan motor goes out, which in turn causes everything listed in your post.

Re: tercel slipped off jack today...:(
If you're using a small enough jack, usually a (2-2.25 ton), two of the four raised edges on a circular saddle fit right into the two holes on the crossmember, making for a secure lock-in connection. I don't think I'd use a flat saddle jack on the crossmember without a rubber/urethane pad, and clean...

Re: hood/bug deflector?
GT Styling / GTS, one of the earlier companies making the plastic add-ons, used to have a listing for the clear/smoke headlight covers for the 87-88 4WD wagons, but I don't recall if they ever had a hood deflector for it. A deflector for any vehicle with the same hood curvature between the headlight...

Re: Auto Trans Service
Good preventative maintenance would be buying a case of your preferred ATF (synthetic is good) and a AT filter kit, then draining the tranny, dropping the pan, changing the filter out (or just cleaning it if the OE one is in good shape and better quality than what you bought), add new gasket and bol...

Re: new cv joint won't go into transaxle
The right tool to whack the CV into the trans is usually a slide hammer, with the correct adapter for the groove around the inboard joint. Being that the correct adapters are hard to come by, you either have to fabricate one yourself, or simply use the very tip of the incorrect "universal"...

Re: muffler upgrade
Your best bet for a nearly bolt-on performance muffler, that will give a deep tone, without the farty ricer noise, is probably a Dynomax Super Turbo. Their part #17771 has a 1.75" inlet/outlet, same as the stock 4WDs, and the body of the muffler itself is about the same size too, meaning all yo...

Re: Need gas tank or part from top with 3 lines
Nice deal on the all new tank and hardware. Sometimes the gas smell or even leaking tank can be from the seals around the sending unit, pickup line, and filler hose, since the factory tanks on these used sealing rings very similar to designs on newer cars with plastic tanks. The Spectra units do awa...
