Totally understand where your coming from.
But hear me out on the Ford. The pin that keeps the shift lever in fell out somehow and when I let go of the shifter after putting it in Drive, it fell out. Simple fix. Not my problem. Plus that behemoth is babied. (for gas $$ reasons)
After looking at ...

Re: 3rd and 4th gear have both....
I wouldnt say I abused the trans...Yes i do have to accelerate rather aggressively sometimes cause my neighborhood opens to a highway. But the week prior to my problems, I hadnt driven it hard or anything. No reason to. Heck, the day it lost third and forth, i wasnt hard on it or anything. The day ...

Re: 3rd and 4th gear have both....
Now hang on a second...I didnt say I knowingly ran it low on oil on purpose. The first transmission was the original...and had a TON of slop in it. It got stuck in second and it was LATER determined it was run low on oil and shit welded itself together. That was ok with me. It was sloppy and i ...

Re: 3rd and 4th gear have both....
Thats my theory as well. Its gotta be something to do with the linkages. But seeing as its now stuck in 5th gear, yet I can move the stick around like normal...doesnt make sense.
Also, when you pull the top of the trans off, you see a recess where the main pivoting rod is. Nothing else. :( So it ...

Re: 3rd and 4th gear have both....
Update. I drove it to the store with only 1,2nd and 5th. I go inside attempt to use the atm. no luck, so I get in the car and put it in reverse only to find out I rolled forward a little um...ok. Maybe 4th works, how about 3rd? put it in what I assume is third, and well its there, the car wants to ...

3rd and 4th gear have both....
decided to randomly disappear on me.
When Im running the tercel hard...like trying to escape the maw of a semi...(neighborhood road opens up to a 55mph highway) I sometimes push it into third quicker than I can work the clutch. Theres no grinding, just a quick snatch. However, what I really think ...

Re: Front differential questions.
Thanks Barto.
That answered all my questions. And that link will help me later on.
I was sent some leads via PM from Tercel4wdrules for tercel 4.10 rear axles.
only main reason I wanted to fully upgrade it was cause I believe in having everything stronger or beefier than it needs to be. Granted ...

Re: Front differential questions.
Well - the rear axle housing alone lists for $806 (Butler has it for $604). Note that this is the hollow housing only - no axles, gears, covers, bearings, or case.

Re: Front differential questions.
Damn...you're right about it being a tad wider. I took the roof rack off of it and it barely fits on the terc. I will be snagging as much interior as possible. The Car is BEAUTIFUL and its a shame its in the junkyard. Its got a blown motor...and 4 cars away from it is a 88 supra with the same motor ...

Re: Front differential questions.
The corolla I found at the yard...was a 2wd. :( Searched 3 other yards and didnt find anything but a cressida which i got the roof rack off of and the mud flaps.
Would the rear axle off of a 86 cressida work? Looks to be the same mounting set up. I looked for tags on the axle and didnt find any ...

Re: Front spring upgrades
sounds like the upper strut mount failed, it is a large bonded rubber doughnut/mushroom kind of part. Get the whole strut assembly including the upper mounts since you need to replace them anyway. The metal part is what gets bolted to the strut tower, the other metal part (on the inside) is what ...

Re: Front spring upgrades
Petros, your just a genius when it comes to tercels aint ya? Thanks. Ill be sure to get the front struts when I go saturday.
only thing is, its $27 for each strut and the springs alone are only $11 each. I might have to put off those tie rods another month. :/
I would change out the hat, but I ...

Re: Front differential questions.
Hey petros, thanks for the how-to.
I agree with the gearing being better with the cars so underpowered, but I was looking for mileage on my trip to florida this winter. But its all ok.
My plan now is to just swap the rear axle with the corolla all-trak in the junkyard that I frequent. How can I ...
