New TVSV for sale
Hi gang, It's been a long while since I've posted because, sadly, I sold my Tercel back about 6 months ago. Now I have one last part floating around that I thought I'd offer up: a new TVSV! I paid 4doorVIP $70 for the part back about 8-9 months ago and I never used it. If someone sends me $40, then ...

Re: Selling my Tercel
Why are you selling it? Does the AC work? Also is the transmission still working fine? You referenced issues that were fixed by changing the fluid. No AC so that's a non-issue. Only selling because I don't drive it enough. I've only put ~10k miles on it since Oct. 2009 when I bought it. The transmi...

Re: Custom EGR System with Weber Carb
I'm going to take the car in today or tomorrow to get it smog tested. I'll follow up on this post to complete the loop and let you all know if it worked or not. Boom. Passed the emissions test. It may be a good idea to sticky this thread for others that pursue the Weber carb solution to simplify fu...

Re: Custom EGR System with Weber Carb
did you get the EGR to stop opening on idle while still connected to the EGR port? Turns out that the idle was set all weird so that was causing improper vacuum all over the place. Once I smoothed it out by resetting idle, things cleared up nicely! and pics!! i'm very excited about this. I thought ...

Re: Custom EGR System with Weber Carb
Thanks for the thoughts, DLB. Ok - I've completed my custom EGR solution and my Terc seems to be running pretty well near perfectly. Here are the images from page 108 of the FSM that show you how to hook up your EGR system with a WEBER carb. It's really quite easy to do. There are a few checks that ...

Custom EGR System with Weber Carb
Hi Everyone, I've been busy working up a solution that will allow me to run a WEBER 32/36 carb WITH the existing EGR system in order to help me pass smog tests. So far I'm really close to a complete solution (with big thanks to DLB for his support over PM). I've hooked up my EGR system in line with ...

Re: Vacuum advance and ignition questions
Regarding routing, the upper port with a brass restriction on it (might be hard to see in place—use a small camera to take a pic of each port and compare) goes to the HAC. if you don't have HAC, just plug this port for now. the other upper port goes to manifold vacuum, and the lower port goes to po...

Re: Blue-ish smoke at high RPM
The Seafoam seems to have eliminated the small amount of smoke I was seeing when I revved the engine. Nice little $10 fix!
Stay tuned for a custom EGR mod that I'm working on with DLB at the moment. I'm planning to rig up a smog-able Weber carb solution. Should be interesting...

Re: Blue-ish smoke at high RPM
Is there a SeaFoam product that is used as an engine oil additive? I thought this stuff was only used as a fuel additive.dlb wrote: add a half a can of seafoam to the engine oil and run it for one or two tanks of gas and then change the oil and filter.

Re: Blue-ish smoke at high RPM
Thanks for the input, guys. I'm starting to think that whatever I'm experiencing isn't that big of a deal given that my last compression test showed excellent results. I did a test back in 2010 and my results were in the 180-190 psi range (I have the higher-pressure 3A-S engine). Yes, that was ~3 ye...

Blue-ish smoke at high RPM
Hey everyone, It's been a long time since I've posted, but I have a question that I'd like to run by some of the experts. When I rev the engine I'm seeing some bluish smoke that leads me to believe that I'm starting to burn a little oil. Does this imply that I need to address something as major as p...

Re: Considering selling my 1985 SR5
Hey DLB -- I've always had a little Honda Civic as the primary car. Not totally sure what I'll use for camping/forest service roads when I go out for an adventure, but I know I can't justify keeping the Tercel while I'm putting less than 5k miles on it per year!

Considering selling my 1985 SR5
I'm barely putting any miles on mine, so I thought I'd post here before putting anything up on Craigslist. No leaks, great condition, fading paint on roof/hood, 4WD works great, starts right up, 235,000 miles, original transmission (fluids changed twice since 2009), newer engine (PO replaced the 3A ...
