Re: Seat belt tensioner Q
while you all are on the topic of seat belts I have a quick question for all of you. my seat belt tensioners work OK but the belt itself never locks if you jerk on it or on bumpy roads like newer cars is this normal? the belts in my honda never locked either which always made me nervous because ...

Re: Towing the Tercel
when I rented a U-haul tow dolly they informed me that I needed to disconnect the drive shaft, this was after I told them what vehicle I was towing and they looked it up in their computer. I'm not sure if it is absolutely necessary or they just tell you that to lift any blame off their shoulders ...

Re: Alien in Transmission!
It seems to me that a bunch of little plastic particles stuck in bearings would not be a good thing either. I guess I look at a bunch of small plastic fragments acting kinda like dirt in there, which might not be the case.
either way, good luck!!

true, true, tazka. If they see me first they melt like butter and there's no need for the car.
Ha! I wish!
the car does all the work, the girls pretend to be interested in me but before I know it their asking for the keys?? I think I might be getting used

Re: Newb looking for a bit of info on 3A scv
sdoan, no need to be so hasty!! JK!!! Offer up any advice you want you can even tell me I'm doing stuff the long drawn out hard way (because I usually do) I've got pretty thick skin.
On that note though, I should have known both those things you describe but I actually failed to do ...

Re: Alien in Transmission!
I'm afraid that i don't have too much helpful advice other than possibly drain the whole transmission if you think there is a chance it will get flushed out with the fluid. The biggest down side I can see with doing this is that it might not come out and may move somewhere that you cannon see/reach ...

Re: Newb looking for a bit of info on 3A scv
I guess I'll see if Auto zone rents compression testers. I hear what your saying with the mpg, my last car (stock 90 honda CRX si) averaged 40 mixed driving and even managed to get 49 once trailing a semi truck on the freeway at about 75 mph for ~250 miles. Oh yea, It also had ~125hp at the wheels ...

Re: Newb looking for a bit of info on 3A scv
thanks tazka and petros. It's nice to hear some real word feedback about the restore and similar stuff. I'm still trying to get my ears tuned properly to know what I'm listening for. From petros' post I gather that a pinging noise is pretty similar to the noise you get when you lug a motor really ...

Re: Newb looking for a bit of info on 3A scv
good to know! thanks petros. At this point I'm not too concerned about it, The car seems to run OK with decent power but it does smoke a bit, especially on start up, so maybe its more of a valve stem seal problem?? IDK. I didn't get a chance to do a wet test on it either which would be much more ...

Re: Newb looking for a bit of info on 3A scv
I finally got around to doing a compression test, been kinda putting it off because I was worried it would tell me something I didn't want to know, which it did. Each cylinder was reading about 95-105 psi which is kinda disappointing. I'm at 3500ft but I don't see it accounting for that much ...

Re: Carburettor Question
I'm by no means a carb expert so maybe someone else can correct me if i'm wrong. The actual fuel delivery is controlled by the power valve and the accelerator pump. I seem to recall that the power valve was a whole assembly and worked in series with the accelerator pump, but I could be mixing things ...

Re: Carburettor Question
ideally, yes you would hope to either see a spray a fuel or at least hear the squirt of fuel. How long has it been since the car has been run? If its been sitting for a while than there might not be any gas in the bowl, and therefore no gas to be sprayed into the throttle bores. you should be able ...

Re: Carburetor/engine idle concerns
Ps - It's really stressful for me to work on the engine when it's idling at ~1,600 RPM! When I physically turn the throttle lever backwards, then I find that my nerves are much more stable
HA! I know what you mean!! It's kind of weird but for some reason when the engine is racing, my heart ...

Re: Carburetor/engine idle concerns
WOW!!! I feel extremely stupid!  apparently this whole time I had the throttle cable adjusted to it's shortest length, but thought it was at its longest.  problem fixed. sometimes I'm the biggest problem with this dang car!
well, I'm glad it idles where it should. I ...

Re: Carburetor/engine idle concerns
The rebuild kit I got (autozone) didn't come with any internal springs. my problem is most definitely related to the throttle cable, but I'm just not sure how to go about fixing it. I was hoping that I could just bent the tang that houses the cable assembly to get a bit more slack, (my cable ...
