Re: Corolla Alert - Alternator question....

Update...problem solved. The voltage regulator checked out OK, so I had to wait for the weekend to investigate further. I peeled all of the old oily electrical tape away from each bundle of wires in the area, and one by one pulled apart the connections and cleaned them. At the bottom of the mess was...

Re: Corolla Alert - Alternator question....

Yep, it's external. Took a while to find it because it is solid state and doesn't look like a "normal" bathtub shaped brass colored one. Tomorrow I'll run some of the resistance tests found in a thread on this forum (thanks dlb) and any I find in Haynes and Chilton.

Re: Corolla Alert - Alternator question....

I know it's not smart to just start replacing stuff at random, but O'Reilley's had an alternator for only thirty bucks, and I had been suspicious of the old one anyway. I swapped them, and no change at all. I've driven about thirty miles with the warning lights on now, and the battery is still charg...

Corolla Alert - Alternator question....

I love this forum, even though my Tercel died a year ago, and perhaps there are enough similarities that someone can give me advice. It's a 1982 Corolla, and today the brake light and alternator lights came on simultaneously while I was driving, I topped off the brake fluid, and I do need to replace...

Re: AAP question....

Thanks. I think it was your list in another thread which I followed a few months back. The last 2 items are what I'm getting around to, having checked off the others. The AAP diaphragm which I removed is kind of stiff and miss-shaped now, although everything else about it matches the replacement. On...

AAP question....

First of all, the car is a 1982 Corolla, but the problem is carb related, and this forum is still the best. I've been trying to get better gas mileage. During the summer it's around 25MPG, but lower in cold weather. I have hoped for 30MPG, like the old specs say I should get. I've checked most of th...

Re: front turning signals don't blink

I'm laughing because I'm not the only one. When I bought my first old Tercel I must have spent half an hour before I realized that the turn signals were under the bumper. Here's where I can beat you all...three years later I bought my second old Tercel, and I did it again. Out of sight, out of mind!

Re: Remove Smog Pump? (Corolla Alert!)

Whoo Hoo..... Thanks, Petros, that's what I wanted to hear. I never really wanted to even think about the belts, etc.; I just needed a go-ahead to pull the whole thing out, AC, smog pump, whatever is loose. You know, if it was hooked into any of those vacuum lines, etc. around the carb, I'd be more c...

Remove Smog Pump? (Corolla Alert!)

Once again, I count on the old Tercel Board to help with a (hopefully) similar design. I'm thinking of completely removing the air conditioning system. It's drained, and the belt has been off for years. There's less room under the Corolla hood than the Tercel one, and I'd love the extra work room. I...

Re: Heater Hose?

After more than 40,000 miles of desert beatings over nearly four years; at over 250,000 miles total, the maintaining got neglected. I couldn't keep up. The front end was loose and problematic. There had been an accident which left me with a salvage title and an ugly body, and the final straw was a b...

Re: Heater Hose?

Yeah, that hose was old and ugly. The fix is temporary. Now I've got several feet of new hose, but I'll have to wait until the weekend to do the replacing. There is one section that's pretty bendy, from the valve to the firewall, and I'll probably just leave it alone. Looks like a special order one, ...

Re: Heater Hose?

Thanks, all...

I realized that the leak was less than two inches from one end, so for today I just cut the end off and stuck the shorter hose back on. There's a bend near to it, making the connection a bit suspect, but it will do for now, until the weekend when I can get it done right.

Heater Hose?

First off, and sadly, I don't currently have a Tercel. All good things, yadda yadda yadda.... Is there a way to change my user name to "Corolla Mikey?" that's what I'm driving, an 82 Corolla, and lots of stuff is a lot like on the Tercel. Plus, I really like this community, so I'll continu...

Re: How do I properly burp my cooling system?...TURTCEL

A few years back I left the filler cap off, and caught it before any damage occurred, but the warning sign for me was that my windshield slowly built up a film of oil while I drove, and when I turned on the wipers, I lost all visibility at 70 MPH. What a mess!
