Re: 1983 Toyota Tercel SR5 something build

Yeah, your high idle is most likely due to a vac leak. Also check to make sure the carb mounting nuts are all snug. And you can spray carb cleaner all around the carb while it's idling and if you hear the RPM's rise, you've found a vac leak. Just some different potential vac leak stuff to investigate.

Re: 1983 Toyota Tercel SR5 something build

Also remember to check the diaphragms that the vacuum hoses go to. You can do this by sucking on the hose that goes to a diaphragm. You should not be able to suck air through it. If you can, remove that hose and cap off wherever the vacuum would be coming from until you can replace the broken diaphr...

Yes it is. Weber's like a lower fuel pressure than the stock carb. I can't remember what the pressure is but if you do a search for 'weber fuel pressure regulator' you should find more info on it.

Re: Tercel back on the road

The saga continues! At least it sounds like you finally got it all sorted out. No more leak from the CV axle seals now that the axles are fully inserted?

Re: FB Marketplace Roundup

Welcome, Jinsu. I didn't bother looking at the automatics because I hate em, personally. Of the manuals, none seem like a great deal to me. I think the 86 and 82 (? - must technically be an 83) look ok but are way overpriced (which is probably why they've both been listed for months), and the 83 wou...

Re: Free to good home: Complete 4AFE swap

Holy moly, I second Chris' sentiment. I hope the lucky taker brings you some home made baking or beer or whatever. It's odd that the 4afe would cause the transmission failures -- there have been a few members here who have done 4age swaps and not mentioned any trans issues so I wonder what was going...

Re: Weber carb install help

The link I provided above gives explicit detail on where to connect the vacuum hoses. Between that and all the photos of Weber installs on the forum, it should be clear about what goes where. Also be aware that different people choose to hook up different things and leave other things disconnected. ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

a really large screw driver works well too, it can take some hammering and it makes a good pry bar. that tool DLB bought looks interesting, but the limited space under a car on a jack stand would make that less than ideal. obviously it is assumed you would have the car on a lift to use a tool like ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

Simon, that's interesting you had to really hammer your axles in. My problem axle went in fine, just a couple taps with a heavy hammer, like normal. The axle removal forks I bought worked well, though they would work even better if the car was up on a stand. I didn't have a ton of room to swing the ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

I should note that this was a brand new axle I just put in a few weeks ago. My old axle had a torn boot and I was doing other front end work so I thought I'd replace the axle before it started clunking. The axle seal never leaked before so I didn't think to replace it then, but within a few days of ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

Got it! Well, my wife got it. I tried a magnet tool in both the axle hole and drain hole, and drained the gear oil and filtered it, no luck. My wife came home and I bitched about what a cluster**** this simple job had turned into, and she wanted to see. Right away she found one piece of the clip on ...
