Re: Sputters or dies after running a while.

I agree with Mark. To answer the Weber/fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator questions, yes the Weber uses the stock fuel pump but it does require a FPR because the stock pump puts out a pressure of 5-6 psi and the weber likes 2-3 psi, IIRC. Mogordo if that's something you're going to look into you shou...

Re: Reconnecting here

Welcome back! What was your user name here before? I'm not sure if you can post videos here -- for photos, you scroll down below the text field, click 'attachments,' click 'add files' and do that, then click 'place inline' to put them in your post. But I don't know if that works for videos, I think ...

Re: '83 3A hoses question

Welcome to the forum, desertrat. I love the user name, btw. Great imagery. That rear hose on the valve cover goes to the HIC (hot idle compensation) which does two things. It controls the air-fuel mixture, and also directs vacuum to a flap that controls whether the air intake is sucking warm or cold...

Re: my old nemesis: another gummed up distributor

I never gave this much thought before I saw this post. I think I'll pull the rotor off and take a peek behind the grease stopper. As long as you can rotate the rotor counter clockwise a little bit and it snaps back to position, it's ok. And unfortunately even once you remove the grease stopper and ...

Re: my old nemesis: another gummed up distributor

David, it is considered normal maintenance to re-grease the mechanical advance as part of a tune up procedure. if it is kept moving freely with penetrating oil, and an occasional clean and grease refresh, it should never get stuck like yours. I believe this is in the FSM as part of a regular servic...

failed brake caliper piston seal

About a year ago I replaced all the brake stuff on my current Tercel. I can't remember if the car came with new calipers or I bought them myself but anyway, they were new or remanufactured. I put them on and all seemed fine. Then recently I was driving to work when the brake light came on and stayed...

my old nemesis: another gummed up distributor

For the third time in my life, I have run into a stuck mechanical advance on a Tercel distributor. This one was working fine when I did a bunch of work on the car about a year ago (I have always checked for spring-loaded advance on them since my first experience with this) but over time I started no...

Re: Won't start after sitting a few days?

Once you get it going with starting fluid, does it run ok then? If so, I'm inclined to agree with SirFoxx that it's fuel delivery related. When's the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Re: Bolt ID Question

Years ago, I bought a six-point (rather than the more common 12 point) socket just for this job. No problems since. I think it was Tom here who ground his 6-point socket down so there was no chamfer on it, just because the fill plugs are so short. I've never needed to go that far but I've always re...

Re: Bolt ID Question

So this has happened to me before and today it happened again. I was replacing the torn CV axle boots on my drive axles on my '81 Tercel and I decided to change the gear oil in the differential. I tried to take the filling plug out using a pipe extension on my socket wrench and a hammer, but as usu...

Welcome to the forum, CrownDeluxe! I hope you get around to posting pics of your car, the Aussie models always seemed to have more cool options than the North American models did.

Re: 85 SR5 3ac cylinder head, possibly passenger fender

Welcome to the forum, Bugalona. I prefer this place for getting good technical advice from serious Tercel enthusiasts, but the Facebook group is a better resource for parts hunting because it's much more active, with many more members. So if you're on fb I would ask there. Good luck!

Re: 1985 tercel windshield BC Canada

I'm in BC too. I looked all across Canada last year with little luck, and the few places I found that had them wouldn't ship them. In the end I found a place in Washington state that had them so I drove down and bought one, then brought it home and had it installed here (if my windshield frame wasn'...

Oooohh right. Sorry, disregard what I said about the rear shocks. It's a similar job to the fronts.
