Re: Broken Clutch Cable

Rock Auto lists a replacement cable for our cars, but you might want to get a couple. The first one I bought ended up having the crimped on metal ends backward, and it was cheap enough to not be worth the money or hassle to just buy a 2nd.

Re: Front / rear axle diff gaskets

I use a thin layer of ultra gray RTV on most things anymore instead of gaskets, I've had a lot better results in terms of leaks, plus it's cheap and you don't have to worry about finding it.

Re: unhappy with 80w-90 gear oil

The front differential design in the T4WD is not as bad on gear oils as most differentials. Since the pinion intersects the ring gear near the centerline of the carrier, instead of way below center like most differentials, the gear teeth don't have near as much sliding action as the unit spins, whic...

Re: Swapping heads on an 86 3A engine

One thing to watch out for on racing is the transmission, it's definitely not a serious unit that'll withstand a the abuse of racing if it's not in tip top shape. It's worth the time to do a full teardown, inspection, and bearing replacement (if they're worn) before you put any serious track time on...

Re: CV axle interior bearings

One thing on the differential, the shims that are required to set gear lash are no longer available from Toyota. I spent a long time looking for them when I first tore into my transaxle for an inspection and found the differential to have twice as much lash as spec from Toyota. When the original dif...

Re: Fuel Tank Baffles

whoever wrote that article either doesn't know what they're doing or has a lot of big fuel line to sell... Since most EFI systems regulate pressure at the fuel rail, they only need enough line size to flow enough fuel to keep the injectors saturated... The 4AFE has 175cc/min injectors, which means t...

Re: Front coil springs

I've got '89 Pathfinder rears on mine, lifted it about 3" in the rear. I still have stock fronts, gives it a bit of a Mopar rake a fixes the crazy understeer that the factory setup has.

Re: Fuel Tank Baffles

Maybe the later or earlier tanks got baffles? My '86 tank was just a tank, no features inside. I made a custom 5/16" pickup to go with my electric carb pump. Semi amazed it's still holding up, it's pretty much a bulkhead JIC (AN) 90 degree elbow mounted in the top of the tank with a hose and pi...

Re: Fuel Tank Baffles

Around 28-30 on freeway cruise, 25 or so if I did a lot of city driving. I'd take my mileage numbers with a grain of salt, my right foot is itchy all of the time... For what it's worth, the throttles did an mpg or two better than my Weber carb.

Re: Hella high watt headlight bulbs

Nice, I love a good pair of headlights! Keep an eye on the bulbs, I had a pair of the Hella 100/130 (talk about bright!) bulbs that melted through the capsule and burst, ruined a perfectly good Hella housing :| Autopal makes a decent housing that's ~1/2 the price of Hella and ~95% as good, I have a ...

Re: Fuel Tank Baffles

I made my own tank from flat aluminum sheet, it ended up around 1 gallon. If I did it again I'd get one from ebay that's premade in the ~2 liter range, a gallon is silly. Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2L-Fuel-Polished-Alloy-Surge-Tank-Aluminum-2-Litre-Swirl-Pot-System-Universal/23264...

Re: Fuel Tank Baffles

When I fuel injected the 3AC I ended up with a surge tank in the engine bay and an EFI pump off that. I used the stock 3AC feed and return lines and never seemed to have any trouble. The EFI pump pulled and returned to the surge tank, so I wasn't trying to push any pressurized fuel back to the main ...

Looks like the factory end bushing is still available: https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toy ... 16010.html
Toyodiy.com has a complete parts diagram available and I've had good luck with toyotapartsdeal.com for buying them.

Re: Crazy 22re bucking

Check adjustment of the TPS: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml The most critical part is that the bottom 2 pins have continuity when the throttle is closed and then opens as soon as the throttle is cracked open. The EFI system will cut fuel when the IDL pin is grounded (throttl...

Re: Beams 3SGE for sale locally...

3SGE won't bolt up to the factory transmission, nor is the transmission really capable of holding up to that kind of power. I've had semi-serious ideas about build a RWD Tercel wagon using a black top 3SGE, but don't know if I want to take on that level of project for... awhile, lol.
