No start? (scratches his head)
Would bad solenoid contacts on the starter keep me from having spark? Had been having the click and no start for a few months with her eventually starting for me. Now, she won't start and run for me and I pulled the #2 and I have no spark. I'm getting fuel, just no spark. Where to start, pull the di...

Pigeon Toe'd front tires
Yesterday, I went to Wal-Mart to have the tires re- balanced and rotated. The technician commented on excessive inside wear on the front tires. Last March, I installed a new CV axle and a month later, I changed out the tie-rods. I was careful to cold chisel match-mark the position of the old tie-rod...

Starter on the fritz
The old click and no start is occurring again. I have to repair these contacts sooner or later. My Mom is coming in for a visit in a day. Should the thing decide to not start - what is the best way to push start for solo person? No hills around, Florida is flat. And, when I pop the clutch do I go wi...

ATTENTION ( WORDS TO THE WISE ) Radiator issue
My radiator started leaking a couple days ago on a radiator I purchased last year. My first thought was Chinese crap radiator.. But, after careful inspection I found the leak and it turned out that the fan shroud was snug up against the radiator - TO SNUG.. The vibration of movements caused the shro...

Re: permatex 2 form a gasket sealant question
Good call, petros.. I tried hammering an oil pan flat many years ago and made dog doo doo out of it.. It seems you have to have a good eye for seeing the slightest wave in the steel or the slightest imperfection in the flatness of the flange part of the pan.. I couldn't get it right - it leaked, not...

Re: permatex 2 form a gasket sealant question
yes, I used a new gasket, the #2 along with a new new tranny pan.. Last year, I put the old pan on with a new gasket, and it leaked like a sieve and that's why I was dead-set on using this permatex gasket #2 stuff.. I have since learned, something - last night I did a look-up as to why tranny pans l...

Re: permatex 2 form a gasket sealant question
CJ, thanks for shedding some light on this. I was expecting it to tack up like #1 RTV ( orange ) Its about 8 hours later now and its tacky but its not hardened up like silicone or the #1 that I have used in the past.. This is what I was expecting.. I wish I had known this stuff to act this way.. You...

Re: permatex 2 form a gasket sealant question
I did just that.. I haven't run those bolts home yet.. I gave them a 3/4 to full turn, just shy of snug. I figured after 3 or 4 hours it would be tacking up and it doesn't seem to be.. I'm thinking the stuff maybe went bad, by being in that hot shed all summer.. But, then again - it just donned on m...

permatex 2 form a gasket sealant question
I installed a tranny pan this morning and the stuff doesn't seem to be tacking up.. The TDS sheet on the permatex web sites says #2 is the slow cure.. It gives no time for cure.. This stuff was in a hot shed all summer and I'm wondering if its no-good.. Does this stuff take awhile? Anyone? T...

Re: Water Pump Change Out ( 84 Terc / 3A Eng )
Thanks for the input, guys.. HOLY MACKERAL!!!! I love this car!! :P That was the easiest water-pump change out I have ever done! Good call on the rag catch for all the old gasket material, that made clean-up a snap. I used coffee filters and mainly positioned them around the timing belt just ...

Re: Water Pump Change Out ( 84 Terc / 3A Eng )
Yes, I was getting by for awhile with just a drip and then last year I did a few drops of oil in the weep hole and it all went away.. I was able to drive up North in July and had no issues until a few weeks ago. I'm back in FL now and it started dripping again and now with the cold front that came d...
