Re: 1986 Tercel4wd SR5, Seattle area $2650.

Dlb it's true I am currently sans T4, I am down to dual bimmers and a Volvo 740 wagon that will likely get donated to help at risk kids. Hopefully said kids don't use the money to buy more schmack. At any rate, I was certainly sad to see the old girl go. When Petros and his wife drove 'er away it re...

Re: Spitfire Motor Rebuilding 2 1/2 Min Video

That engine rebuild would have taken about a week tops if he hadn't taken so many damn photos. Neat video at any rate. John be sure to get your '67 back on the road! Remember that leftover parts means the car will be lighter and faster. Just keep that sucker chained to your haus since Fresno is the ...

Re: Wheel Spacers! Info please.

I have put generic Autozone 1/4" spacers on my T4 with no ill effects. I was curious if a given set of wheels/tires would even fit. These were simply a slab of metal between the hub and wheel, non-hubcentric, not bolted to the hub, and I didn't do any aggressive driving with them. Companies lik...

Re: My first field repair

About halfway to Albuquerque Sounds like that could be a cool country tune. Funny thing is nobody stopped to see if we needed help or anything. That's pretty much a sign o' the times nowadays. Look at the bright side - at least you didn't get jacked. If you broke down in Detroit most likely you wou...

Re: rover 3500?

I always loved the looks of the Rover 3500 - very euro-sleek for that period. It's too bad they weren't very reliable otherwise they would have done better in the States. That engine is commonly transplanted into TR7s to make essentially a TR8. Motor peeps have gotten 350hp + from them in naturally ...

Did you get your car running yet? Where do you live? One of us may be close enough to help out in person.

Re: YUGO!

Love the factory hood scoop! When I lived in New England a few years aback there was a guy who autocrossed the buh-jesus out of his very modified Yugo. He would beat the Lotus Elises! The Yugo engines are fairly robust, IIRC they are the same as what was in a Fiat X1/9. I owned one of those and neve...

So this means my '91 740 wagon has at least 2,768,000 miles left in it? Awesome.

Wow, that's a haul! We all want more details and pics please. Why did you make the trip? To see friends/family or just for the hell of it? I've traveled with cats before - nice companions until they decide to take a bio break on your lap.

Thanks for sharing this, gatemaster, I suspect my car may have the same problem. Is there an easier way to tell if the accel pump ball is there? I don't suppose you took any pics of your fix, did you?

Re: Old cars, friends and family

I stand by my post. I have also worked at a shop, I've sold cars at a dealer, worked at parts stores, and have been a shadetree mechanic for 20+ years. But even though I've owned only older cars incredibly I know many, many people who have purchased new cars (go figure!). I am very familiar with the...

Re: Old cars, friends and family

Depreciation is usually considered to be 30-40% in the first year and about 25-30% for the next 5 years, after that it's considered to have no value. On any new car, one can expect out of pockets (maintenance) costs to be $500-1000 in the first year, after that it can easily double every year. Huh?...

Re: There goes the catalytic converter

I imagine that any muffler shop around you will do a test pipe since you don't need to do emissions. With an exhaust leak you may be breathing some fumes until you get the leak(s) fixed. Your mental health's monetary value can only be determined by yourself.
