Re: New headlight idea
Drill two small holes at the bottom of the housing to let moisture drain out, and take some rubbing compound to the lens and polish it up. I had an old F150 that I did this on and it worked wonders. No more yellowed lenses.

Re: 83 Transmission Removal/Installation
When you pull the tranny, you have to bring it out down and at an angle.

Re: Put the tranny in, but now its stuck in gear
So, how does one insure that is in fifth gear or neutral with the transmission out? I'm afraid I may of knocked something out of alignment.

I pulled out the shifter and made sure it was seated in shifter bar thingy... whatever you call that bowl on a stick that is in the toploader.

Put the tranny in, but now its stuck in gear
So I got the 'new' transmission in last week, tonight I finally got around to filling it with gear oil and putting the front wheels back on. I started it up, made sure it was in neutral, and it starting going forward on its own  Here's the DX: -The shifter is completely in neutral and moves ab...

I want to say its for a Japanese car or maybe a tractor. I swear I've seen that logo before somewhere but I just can't place it.

Finally got the tranny back in!
After about an hour of wrestling and cursing, I finally got it back in. Its not nearly as hard as you all made it sound (yeah right). My method was fiddle around with a jack for a while until it looked futile, then I just pushed the jack out of the way and somehow got it up on my chest and from ther...

Re: Anyone willing to part with a tranny?
Well the input shaft was stripped... along with the main cluster gear... so its a junker all together. But this new tranny I got (and hopefully one of these days I'll actually get back into the car) feels much more solid than the old one does anyway... so I'm just going to use it.

Re: Hello from Mass....and a front end question
That FSM cost me 112 dollars and some change to print out, put in a decent binder (which the POS is already falling part) and some nice plastic dividers in it... but its completely invaluable while I'm attempting to do a clutch/transmission/now CV boot and front suspension overhaul. That thing rocks!

Re: Flywheel removal?
I'm usually wearing safety glasses that the air force gave me in my safety kit while I'm under there anyway. I got tired to dirt and grease getting into my eye
AND about the starter question, nevermind. i did a little research and determined that the only problem is that I'm an idiot

Re: Flywheel removal?
I ended up just getting an electric wrench from Sears. 90 dollars, but it was a hex bit drive. I had to get an hex bit to 1/2in square adapter, and a 10 piece impact socket set from Harbor Freight for 10 bucks. I guess not too bad. The little craftsman just about didn't have enough oompf to get it o...

Re: Flywheel removal?
So what would be the most cost effective way to do it without buying an impact wrench?
