Re: unhappy with 80w-90 gear oil

Once again I will state that I believe that Redline 75-90 NS is the best lube for the t4wd trans.

Re: wheel weight - is 4 lbs per wheel a big difference?

My choice would be the Miata wheels for the light weight. I'd go with a dark charcoal color in semi gloss on them.

I had some of the stock silver Miata 14" daisy wheels on my my silver t4wd and it looked pretty good...

Sold my last T4wd

I got $3500 for my much gone thru T4wd. Last of the fleet so to say, as I had three of them at one point. Great cars, I had lots of great times with my just sold '85. Since a different era in my life looms soon I am paring down to two trucks and a very fuel efficient dual sport motorcycle. My wife h...

Re: rear tailshaft housing seal & tranny fluid flush

Does anyone have any tips for getting the output shaft dust shield off? I am having a hell of a time. It looks like there might be a little rust between the shield and the trans. I have sprayed it down with PB blaster, used a hammer, preyed with a screwdriver, used heat, etc., but NO LUCK. It doesn...

Re: Vacuum Check Valve

It is a very good idea to have the jet in place, or a very small orifice in the line, to the choke breaker as a backfire is very likely to destroy the diaphragm in the CB w/o some kind of protection. The CB assy's are getting hard to find and very pricy.

Re: setting timing as per the FSM

if the timing doesn't advance when you reconnect the vac advance hose to the upper diaphragm, it could be one of a few things. 1) the diaphragm is broken. put a clean hose on the port and suck (if there is a second port with a smaller hole on the upper diaphragm, plug it while you suck on a hose co...

Standard Motor products part # VC360 is an original Nippon Denso vac advance assy for the t4wd. I have bought one.

Re: Thoughts on the choke breaker & jet

Hmm. Is this the port on the bottom of the carb right next to the HIC connection that looked really restricted? Compared to the others, it was about the size of a pinhole. I thought that was a "built in" jet, as the diagrams were confusing. If not, I guess I need to put a jet in there! Wh...

Thoughts on the choke breaker & jet

I recently helped a friend diagnose and replace a failed choke breaker (CB hereafter) that had a ruptured A diaphragm. His car is a stock '85 t4wd. He had bought a rebuilt carb a couple of years ago and it did not come with the jet that fits in the line that connects to the A diaphragm of the CB. Th...

Re: Questions regarding oil changes

My Regal has a nice sensor that monitors the oil and tells me when it is dirty and time to change it, I've gone almost 10,000 miles until the light turned on and the oil wasn't even that bad! The PCM system computes how long until it lights up the change oil light based on your driving. Lots of lon...

Re: car bucking at 2Krpm. Distributor cutting out?

The hose that I am talking about runs from the EVAP purge solenoid on top of the EVAP carbon canister to the passenger rear corner of the carb. The EVAP purge solenoid is easy to recognize as it is the only thing on top of the EVAP carbon canister that has electrical control wires going to it.

Re: car bucking at 2Krpm. Distributor cutting out?

does it happen when the engine is cold, warming, and warmed up, or just one or two of those? Dang, DLB, you have come a long ways! The above is a very important question. To the OP: disconnect the vac line from the EVAP purge solenoid and plug it. Sometimes this can totally cure the issue that you ...

Re: Supercharged MR2 Motor into a '85 SR5 AWD Tercel?

Yes any A series 'yota motor will bolt up to the t4wd auto or manual trans. The high performance twin cam Ag series motors have 8 bolts on the end of the crank for the flywheel or torque plate of an automatic to bolt to. It is also a nice forged crank where the single cam A motors & low performa...

Re: EFI buick will not run after running out of fuel

First, the fuel pump will not pump fuel for more than a couple of seconds max when the key is turned to on w/o starting the car. That is to get the fuel rail pressurized in anticipation of the engine being started. I would not bother checking for fuel flow on an EFI car as flow is not what really ma...
