Pair of '85 SR5s near Denver
I have a pair of '85 SR5s that I'm ready to move on from. both are gold, both are 200k+ cars. The runner had a new engine 60k ago, but its got tin worm pretty bad. the non-runner has an unknown vintage motor-its strong, but unknown and it came down from Wyoming ~10 years ago, This one had a run-in w...

Re: 1983 Tercel 4WD SR5 $975 (Needs Trans) Wyoming
Hey Jared, I've got an '83 trans here in CO waiting for a car to be put around it. -Denver/Boulder area if it makes any difference. My daughter is in Ft. Collins, I can deliver there if need be.

Re: Transmission and Parts car for sale + more!
Heater valve is good- checked it, the feed and drain tubes are my only other possibility, I think.

Re: Transmission and Parts car for sale + more!
That's the one that won't heat (I'm going to continue to try on that one), the parts car was the one on the side of the garage without a rear window. All told, I've got 2 early (3.7:1, IIRC) 4WD trannys that are good, the one needs to be removed though.

Re: Starter Repair Kit
I've found that it's usually just the contact that closes between the hot terminal and the plunger that wears. I bought a bunch (8?) of the contacts and have only used 3 of them so far, as the only one that's been severely worn was the hot side. I also clean up the plunger contact ring while I'm in ...

Transmission and Parts car for sale + more!
My Rusty Rat Bastard has decided to not heat AT ALL, even after a heater core change, so I'm goin gto dispense with some of my parts (We still have 2 '85s though). The parts car needs to go away-early '83 SR5, good trans (I even have another in the garage) good engine, body is dissolving, no front g...

Re: Clutch pedal goes down but needs a lot of force
My '83 had high pedal pressure before I changed engine and clutch out - I found that the throw out bearing carrier had lots of old sticky grease where it is supposed to glide over the input shaft tube that was increasing the sliding friction. Since then, everytime that I change out a clutch or engin...

Re: Vanishing Brake Fluid
I have never heard of brake fluid evaporating. Check around the master cylinder. The gaskets that seal the reservoir can leak. The master between the brake booster also. It may not make it to the ground to show a puddle. But be damp. Did you pull the drums off to check the wheel cylinders? Are the ...

Vanishing Brake Fluid
My youngest daughter now has the '85 sunroof car and is using it for commuting to work and back, a couple of weeks ago, it ate the timing belt (I had no idea of the age of it), Dragged it home with the truck (15 miles up and down hills) with my eldest driving the truck (she had no experience at doin...

Re: 1984 air suction system
I know that this is in the indexed posts, but... The air suction system is a passive air injection system. The flat, pancake style thing attached to the bulbous one is a reed (or flapper) valve that only allows air to pass into the cat when the vacuum is high enough. The vacuum is generated by the B...

Re: Rebuilt engine won't idle
Check the wiring for the fuel cutoff circuits (Big Green connector) and make sure that you have them by the book for your car. I had the same issue with one of mine, someone had rebuilt the carb before I bought it and just plugged the wires in helter-skelter once I got those sorted out it idled at 8...

Re: '85 Transmission Available
Yeah, We've had a rash of Hit and Runs in the Denver area, I believe that its because the penalties for hit and run are less severe than for DUI  . Even if you kill someone with a hit and run, theh penalties STILL seem to be less. Therefore, everyone who's had their license revoked or suspe...

Re: Idle Oscillation Fixed
So did you just take the connectors out of the carb plug and switch them around? I think I need to do exactly this! Sorry I'm late to respond to this  Exactly- I used a paper clip to push the locking tab back and out of the way. I've got the pinouts on paper with wire colors if you need it, l...

Re: '85 Transmission Available
The wheels are mine- brand new (<200 miles Cooper weathermasters), Drivers window seal, I think I've got one in the overhead from a previous car- I'll look. Hatch seal was cut in two by the Jaws of Life, but i have another. Cluster is OK, sunroof seals are good, it was open at the time (don'...
