Re: Twin Webber's...

The 4A-C is direct bolt-in... Just need the water pump housing and the motor mount brackets from the old 3A.

Re: 1983 T4WD SR5 *clean CA car*

Gear lube level is fine, it's definitely a clutch problem.

Since there was no interest here I've decided to post on Craigslist. I just hope the car goes to a good home...

Re: 1983 T4WD SR5 *clean CA car*

I tried increasing the clutch pedal free play and it didn’t seem to make a difference. When I first start it I can get it into 1st gear but subsequent shifts into 1st and it won’t go into gear. Next step would be to put washers at the bell housing and see if that does anything but maybe the pressure...

1983 T4WD SR5 *clean CA car*

I finally got this car back as a loan to a friend for an extended period of time. I can say I went through hell and back to bring this car down to So Cal from Nor Cal after the car was only running on 2 cylinders when I bought it several years ago. We swapped in a used engine with a lot of new parts...

Re: Another one lost to a drunk driver...

It gets worse... The culprit that smashed it has no insurance and I did not have coverage for uninsured motorist so not only am I losing out on the car I'm also on the hook for the impound & storage. Now I am forced to get rid of the car ASAP with no chance of recovering the drive train as I have no...

Another one lost to a drunk driver...

Back in late 2105 I acquired this car from a forum member that used it to put together another vehicle. I saw the pictures of this car and went to go see it. The clean interior and the relatively straight body won me over although I really wasn't in the market for another car at the time and the fac...

Re: Highest RPM achieved?

Peak power comes in at 4,800 rpm with either 3A/4A. I will rev it up to 5500 rpm if necessary to keep me in the powerband when for when I upshift into the next gear. The Delta 260 cam made the engine a bit peppier in the higher rpm range so I found myself winding the engine out more, but I've since ...

Re: 3ac to 4ac swap; have motor and questions...

Yes, the 3A fuel pump will work, that's what I used on mine. You can get an idea of the year by whether it has a straight valve cover or a wavy valve cover and if it has the TOYOTA lettering on the valve cover. The later 4A engines with the wavy valve cover usually have a black 4A sticker, the earli...

Re: 3ac to 4ac swap; have motor and questions...

I used a 3A one with the 4A-C I installed. The cam should be similar with the exception of the cam in the 4 spd hatch, that one I think used a different profile. You will need the water pump housing from the 3A to swap over as the 4A-C uses a different one.

Re: How to get rid of fast idle when hot?

Check the TP screw on the front of the carb. If the TP system is not working properly it will cause the idle to go up. You can back off the screw and lower the idle if this is the case.

Re: Wanted:Emissions parts

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it seems like it's also missing other emissions components like the EBCV (I don't see those two hoses running to the carb) and the vacuum switches. All of which are important part of the electronic feedback system, which reduces emissions under cruise conditi...

Re: Pulling to the left

A tire can cause a pull or if the caster is not within specs. Did they give you a print-out with the alignment specs?
