Re: '85 T2WD AT eBay CA Car
Looks to be equipped with the much coveted cup holders, hence the extra long radio bezel. It also seems to have a 34/78 group size battery in it as well. They should've put a 24 in there...

Re: The collection begins?
If the oil smells like gasoline, perhaps the fuel pump failed and started pumping gas into the oil and thinned it out.

Re: Powering up for testing
What I think he means is converting the FWD wagon from 2wd automatic, to 2wd 5 spd manual. More than one member here has done the 4wd auto to manual, so the process should be a bit easier switching auto to manual with the FWD model.

Re: THEY DO EXIST
I think this cup holder was designed to be used with the extra tall bezel trim that I've seen. It's noticeably longer than the regular stereo bezel.

I've also had two manual steering cars that also clunked due to inner tie-rods that had too much play. It was noticeable when accelerating and then decelerating.marlinh wrote:I'm glad they didn't charge you for the first alignment. I have had a manual steering car with worn inner tie rods clunk like crazy.

I think it would be ridiculous to spend this much on a 1st gen tercel. The 2nd gen Tercel was a safer car and also had a number of improvements.

Re: '84 Tercel4wd, automatic DLX for sale
It does not have HAC, CA cars had a different emissions setup than Federal models. If you want to disable it, you would want to remove the valve and install a block plate, plus cap the lines and remove the EGR modulator.

Apparently the seller doesn't know that the 83-84 SR5 models had the inclinometer, not only the 84 model. Without power steering or AC, this would be dlb's kind of car .

Re: '84 Tercel4wd, automatic DLX for sale
While I like the tercels, I'm just waiting to get "that look" when driving it around here. Heck knows our fist gens gets plenty of looks and the kids in the area have been heard asking "mom/dad what's that old thing?" I didn't get any looks until my friends and I went out and dr...

I drove 400 miles one way with two Tercel 4WD transmissions and 1 passenger. The max cargo capacity is per the 1983 owner's manual 775 lbs (occupants + luggage).

One more addition to the list of parts replaced is a new voltage regulator.

Re: Shifting into EL
The shifter on one of mine has A LOT of slop, but it still goes into EL. It just takes more force since it's to the far left of 1st gear. It's very difficult to shift into EL while the car is moving. If you had to downshift into EL if you ran out of power in 1st gear, it would be best to double-clut...

It seems to me like the low mileage Tercel wonders go thru more owners than other cars. This one has the coveted factory cruise control.

Re: The "breaking bad" Tercel
This one is the back up Tercel they had. The one that was seen in the different episodes had an 85-86 style grill. This one has the 83-84 SR5 blue plaid seats, whereas the other one has 85 SR5 style seats. I wonder if the actual one will be sold as well.

Re: INSTALLED 14" WHEELS - MPG IS WORSE??
Best mpg I have logged was at lower speeds - between 50-60 mph. I just have to find a slow truck and go behind it to give me an excuse to go that slow. If there's no one going slow in the far right lane, then I have to go at least the speed limit, which is usually 65, with some stretches down to 55 ...
