1987 Toyota Tercel SR5 Wagon (5 door)
Runs and Drives, and needs some work:
It is a front wheel drive car, with 4x4.
Has 205k miles.
It has the 3A four cylinder engine
Is a 5 spd manual transmission with an additional "extra low" gear when in 4WD mode.
Exterior color is Red with black
Interior is blue / light blue
Replaced the Alternator (Previous owner had a Honda one in there and it was working, but the battery light was on, so I replaced it with the correct one from a '87 Wagon)
I would recommend repairing the clutch as it's starting to slip. I have a new (and complete) clutch repair kit included with your purchase.
Vehicle is driveable, as it is now.
Included are the original (white) rims and center caps with two excellent tires. The tires on the vehicle now are great as well. Also have owner's manual, and a repair guide.

When I purchased this car, with intentions of my daughter driving it, it was missing a lot of interior stuff, exterior items, and needed the clutch repaired. . I have since taken care of all the interior stuff, plus tinted the rear windows (for privacy -they are "big" windows), and all the exterior matters. As it sits now, and as described, it's good to go. Starts up every time! It's in average condition for a 23 year old vehicle!

(NOTE) I replaced the radiator fan (whole assembly). I put in a fan that I tested, and 100% works, but for some reason the fan will not come on and the temperature will rise when the vehicle is stopped at a traffic light. I have checked the fuses, and the only things I can think of are the relay (within the same fuse block) may need to be replaced, or the temp sending unit to turn the fan on is bad.

I share these issues, to promote full disclosure about what I know about this vehicle. I have not driven it for any length of time. I purchased it back in April, and it has sat in my garage until about a month ago when I started fixing things on it.

I can have the clutch done for $400. If I do that, it will certainly be reflected in an updated, increased price. Get this car now for nearly nothing before the winter arrives!

PLEASE make sure you also have the money before wasting my time . Thank you ! IF you are reading the ad , the car is still for sale . I'm selling my 84 Toyota Tercel 4wheel drive wagon . I originally bought this back in 2003 with 158 thousand miles on it . I have done alot of work to it including Installing a rebuilt Transmission ( 6speed ) from Rising Sun engines .New clutch , pressure plate , throw out bearing and flywheel resurfacing , new engine rear main seal KYB srtuts and shocks , alternotor ( Bosch ) and voltage regulator , New Factory Toyota carburator ( $600 ), New vacume lines , timing belt and tensioner , water pump , 2 core radiator . It's got a decent Sony AM-FM cassette with CD controller and a 10 disk CD changer . Glass is all good and the interior is in pretty good shape . fit's 4 average sized Adults very well . get's 25-28 mpg around town and 30+ mpg on the freeway . Does great in the snow with the shift on the fly 4wheel drive . Also have Yakima roof racks for it . Also has a tow hitch for pulling a small utility trailer and a 4 wire trailer plug in .
I sold it to a friend last year and he drove it for 8 months and then he wanted to sell it as they had another kid and needed a mini van . So I bought it back thinking I'd keep it around for a winter / camping car . Well It needs some more work like a front pump seal for the oil pump ( leaks oil BAD) and the steering rack needs rebuilt as it makes a clunk noise going over bumps . IT'S NOT the cv joints cause they are fairly recent .

The car has 176 thousand on it now and the tags are still good for another year ( june 2011 ). Has good tires and brakes on it .Still runs and drives good but the oil leak and the steering need to be addressed . I just installed new bocsh platnium +4 plugs and did a compression test . all 4 cylinders are in the 180-185 psi range as the were when I did the test at 158k . I'd fix it and sell it for way more because I've seen some of the highmile POS tercels on CL going for $1000+ .

If you are Mecanically inclined and have the tools you could do all the work and spend about $200 cash and have the issues fixed . I have other things to get fixed around here and I don't have the time to spend on the Tercel . It will run and drive to it's new location but the issues really need to be fixed before being a daily driver .
Price is $500 cash ( no checks of any kind and no wire transfers ) and not a penny less SO that means the price is firm also means that the car won't leave my driveway with out $500 cash in my hand !! NO TRADES , NO SHIPPING ! Serious people only PLEASE ! NO tire kickers , time wasters or scrapers . If I wanted the money that bad I would have scraped it myself . I have three 1985-1987 vintage Toyota Tercel 4wd wagons for sale or trade. 1 is a blue 1987 wagon that needs a clutch, a new battery, and a back window. It has a good engine with under 100K miles on it. There's a '85 or '86 that's white, also has a good strong engine, but was starting to pop out of 1st gear when I parked it. Odometer says 324000 miles however the code on the engine says that it has a replacement toyota motor in it so this motor does not have that many miles on it.
Car runs like a top and has a new belt, water pump, new air filter, spark plugs, plug wires and I had the coolant flushed. This is one of the longest lasting cars on earth. Car has no AC or power steering which makes it a breeze to work on. Car weighs about 2200 lbs so the no power steering is not a problem.

Car also has 2wd or 4wd and when it is in 2wd it gets about 30mpg on the highway and come winter it is unstoppable in the snow! This is really the perfect car for the reno area, great milage and 4wd.

A little rust spot on the hatch but other than that the previous owner tried to cover up some scratches with a different color brown thus the spots in the paint.

HAVE A CLEAN TITLE FOR THE CAR, NEED IT GONE!!! MAKE AN OFFER!

Good Car Runs and drives, Engine is very good (yet the can has 210K) New clutch installed this month (pressure disk and through out bearing w/ New gear oil.
Good altinator, new fuel pump. ***Clean Title, Licenced Tag good through April 2011 !. Has A/C it worked well until It leaked out of its pressure hose: $26 at ROCK AUTO online.
Windshield is very good (no damage or chips that i can see)
New battery Extra tires.
Factory service manual.
The ignition key is worn out. needs work but still starts fine
The transmission works, transfer case makes some minor rattling noise under the shifter (this part of the tranny can be replaced or repaired with out removal of the whole transmission).
The plastic radiator has been patched on the very top and it weeps(I still can drive it) $90 at autozone.

1986 Toyota Tercel 5 Speed Manual 190,000 miles 4x4

Body: Previous owner got hit in the left front fender area, so it has accumulated some rust.
My brother hit the right front bumper into a tree stump, but car is still fine (He also removed the muffler, but knows how to put one back on)

Basically no rust on the car
Comes with plenty of extra tires on rims (summer, studded)

Starts easily in 20 below weather as long as you use it regularly.

Has always been a reliable car for me.
