~20 T4WD's on Craigslist, week of 4/12-19/10

I haven't done a Craiglist search for about 3 weeks now, and there were so many T4WD's listed I thought I'd try posting them in a single thread instead of separately. I thought it would be useful to copy and paste the Craigslist link plus the narrative description from each ad. Some of the listings have photos and some don't... you'll have to go to the actual ads to find out. I'd be interested to hear from anybody out there if this type of listing is useful and/or interesting, or any other constructive feedback.

The vast majority of the vehicles listed here are running, or nearly so. A couple of the listings are for parts, and one is a guy looking to buy a T4WD. The most recent postings are first, progressing to the oldest at the end.

As expected, the primary geographic range of available vehicles is from the midwest (few) to the intermountain and west-coast states (many).

Caveat: There might be a few 2-wheel-drive wagons here, but I'm pretty sure almost all are 4WD's (either SR5's or DLX's).

Hello:

I have a 1986 Toyota Tercel five door hatchback wagon in nice shape all except for the transaxle. I had the trans rebuilt and didn't realize that the separate transaxle needed gear oil. After driving it for about a hundred miles the transaxle locked up. It could well be only a bearing but in all honestly, I don't want to mess with it any longer. THe motor runs great (passes Echeck) and all the body parts, glass etc are in great shape in case someone needed it for a parts car. I'll take 300.00 cash as Pull A Part says I can get 200.00 just for scrap. The car can be driven not very far but enough to get it on a car hauler or a trailer. Call me at 961 4674 if interested.

Great gas mileage: EPA 29 mpg on highway!
5-speed manual transmission (with 6th extra low gear when in 4wd).
Sunroof
New Snow tires (< 10k miles on them) and 2nd set of mounted tires for summer
Interior in good shape (owner is non-smoker).
Exterior has some small areas of rust and left-front fender color doesn’t match.

Everything works except:
- Cruise Control stopped working 2 yrs ago.

Hello, I am selling my old Toyota 4x4 wagon. I purchased a Subaru about a year ago and stopped using the Tercel. I passed it on to my sister (had just got her license), who drove it for a few months, and then also bought a Subaru.

It’s nothing pretty to look at but it continues to run strong and has flawless four wheel drive. The tires were replaced within the last 15K, oil changed and new battery within the last 2k, and new fuel pump, a couple transmission seals (had a leaking problem that is now fixed) all within the last 20K, and also the timing belt, drive belts and brakes were done within the last 30K.

The car has 240,000 miles on it total. These old Toyotas don’t like to die, just watch for them as you drive around and you’ll see plenty of them.

The car also has a block heater, which is good for starting in the winter.

It is missing the rear bumper, and the trunk does not lock. The driver’s door locks but can’t be unlocked with the key, so you have to go in through the passenger door, unlock the drivers door, and then go around and open it. There’s a fair amount of rust, but nothing threatening it mechanically. The carburetor could use a rebuild, the owner before me had done a rebuild several years back but it is starting to run a little rough in cold weather. It also is not very powerful, it tends to crawl up I70 in the steeper parts. That said, it made a good mountain car a few years back when I lived up near Jamestown. The suspension probably has a few weak points here and there - I had it checked out recently at repair master’s automotive in Boulder, they found plenty of items that could use improvement but recommended that nothing be fixed, IE it isn’t unsafe and it’s old so why fix it up when it can do without it. The windshield is also pretty cracked.

It has some fun “airplane” gauges on the dash, telling the driver the tilt of the ground on two different axes. It has a tape player and AM/FM radio with two Sony speakers in the back.

Shifts into 4x4 like nothing, and an extra low gear is available while you’re in 4x4 to help pull out of tough spots. Once back in 2 wheel drive, it has the normal 5 speed shifting pattern. Great gas mileage for a 4x4!

181K miles, 6-speed manual transmission, good condition, super reliable.

If you are looking at this, you probably know how valuable these cars are. It has tons of cargo space and the four-wheel drive makes it a great car in the snow. Plus, you can switch into four-wheel-drive without getting out of the car or locking hubs. I hate to give it up, but I have too many cars and something has to go.

Everything works (including the 4x4, extra low gear, heat, air conditioning, and rear window defrost), it has a cd player w/remote, and includes a set of custom wheels (not currently on the car). Tires are in great shape, and I’ve kept up with regular oil changes and maintenance.

The only issues the car has are minor:
- there is some rust along the wheel wells and by the 4x4 emblem on the back door (common for these vintage SR5s).
- the windshield wiper lever broke, so I had to fashion a homemade replacement (the part is not available any longer). All the features still function.
- The charge/e-brake lights stay on, due to a loose wire under the dash (the charging system and e-brake are fine, I just haven’t taken the time to locate the loose wire)
- There is a hole in the muffler

Very reliable and roomy. Paint is oxidized and there is a scrape down the driver's side. All in all, it is a good little car that gets great mileage. It has approx 186k miles and still runs great. Clutch and brakes are good.

Comes with three extra tires and rims. Great point A to Point B car.
