Where are you located? Saw a 3a with claimed 90,000 miles on Craigslist in the Pacific North Wet recently.

And here is a whole running car.

I didn't know they made these guys in 1981. Is that a typo?

It's gotta be a typo or brain fart. 1983 is the earliest model year, but they may have started production in late 1982.

I have a 3a short block you can have cheap. It needs to be overbored and new pistons installed (bores were worn to the point that piston slap caused the #3 piston to fail).

But I think the shipping would be more than the block is worth, I am in the Seattle are too. Your best bet is to find something local. I have bought whole parts cars by just keeping my eyes open for abandon cars in side yards or back yards, and asked at the house if they wanted to sell it. In your case any model that uses either the 3a or 4a engine would be useful ('81-87 Tercel, Corolla, what else?). Just keep your eyes open for old non-running cars, you may run across what you need local and cheap (or even free!).

Good luck.

Well, I have a parts tercel I'm pulling apart right after new years. I live in Duluth. The motor has 220K on it, and other than the always screwed up carb, the engine is solid. The tercel is an 86 SR5. I plan to keep the transmission.
260K with no end in sight....
