Release Bearing Spring

Post by ESI-RStarion »

This is my first post but I have been reading this forum since october 20ish '06 when I get my 1983 tercel sr5 wagon, so first off I would like to say hello to everyone. A few things about myself, I'm 16 and live in gresham oregon, ok anyways. The other day on my way to work (feb 7th) I was downshifting from 4th to 3rd coming up to a light my music was kinda loud but I heard a crunch/crack/pop noise as I was going into 3rd, rpms dropped to and idle and I rolled to a stop at the light, it wouldn't engage in gear so I pushed it off the road and got it later that night. I last night I start tearing into it right now I have the tranny dropped, the new clutch in but one thing is holding me up, when I took out the Release bearing from the input shaft I couldn't see how it was hooked up, so now I'm covered up to my elbows in grease trying to figure out how to get the spring to hold onto the the release fork and the release bearing, I need to get this done by tonight, I have work tomorrow  Any hastely help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Andrew!

Welcome to the forums. I've done the job your doing, but can't remember the details right now. What you could do if no one else posts the answer, is go to our main page and download the Toyota FSM (factory service manual). It's located here: http://www.tercel4wd.com/ Just click on 'technical info', and then download the .pdf. What you're doing shouldn't be tough, hopefully you figure things out ok. Oh yeah, and welcome to the forums! Keep posting and tell us more about your terc!

Yeah, before I dug into the project i downloaded the fsm, the pictures that involved the spring leave a lot to the imagination, got it figured out though! But my pilot bearing was shot so have to wait til tomorrow to get one. Doesn't get here until noon and I work a 1:30pm to 10:00pm shift so looks like i'll be busting out the shop lights again! Thanks for the welcome. Oh yeah, I did the jeep spring lift on it and put 195/75/r14 studded snowtires all the way around. Was runnin circles around everyone when we got 5" or so of snow mid january.
