4A-C HP and Torque increase

Post by johnny »

What horsepower and torque gains would be expected with a 4A-C swap over the stock motor?

Would the stock air cleaner still fit (I like the stock look), with a Weber card conversion?

3AC- 62HP @ 4800RPM (early) or 5200RPM
75ft/lb @ 2800RPM

4AC- Early- 70HP @ 4800RPM Late- 74HP@ 5200RPM
85ft/lb@2800RPM 86ft/lb@ 2800RPM

As per Chilton

You can make the factory carb houring work, I believe, but it takes some form of adapter. Or there is a similar to stock one I believe.
It can fit, you just need the right filter. So I'm told. The 4AC intake sits a little higher than the 3AC if I am correct.

Since I plan on using all the manifolds, carb etc. from the old 3AC, will the carb still sit higher?

yeah, the 4a-c intake manifold makes the carb sit higher, the SR5 corollas have more clearance from da hood because the engine sits lower most likeley for a better center of gravity.

I think the main reason it sits lower is that it doesn't have a front drive differential sitting beneith it.

Just make sure the runner ports are more or less the same size.
