How old is everyone on this site?
Let me do some math.... I guess I am 28!
That is great that typrus is into the Tercel! (with him being only 18, not that there is anything wrong with being young, just surprising thats all)
I like them bc I learned to drive on one and fell in love.
Cheers!

My Kiska is 9.. Being my oldest American Eskimo dog. Poor thing is dumber than a doorknob. She's been kicked in the head by horses. Now she chases rocks and barks at the walls.
14 year gap there eh? Well, I think Celine Dion is married to a guy about 30 years older than her. Who robbing the cradle, who the grave?

GTSSportCoupe, I am 19 years old, older than Typrus and tercel4wdrules, but still young enough to enjoy life even more than the 20 year olds. How old are YOU?
GTSSportCoupe, did you know that I am now taking classes at MassBay Community College Ashland Campus in MA, and I am taking the TOYOTA program offered there. We talk cars and stuff and I tell my buddies how a turbocharged Tercel 4wd would be rad!!!! I enjoy that class so far. My teacher is 3x your age, but he's still cool. I got to practice with hydraulic lifts in the shop of the campus and its funny because there is an auto body shop and a body shop next to the service shop. The auto body one is called Hollis and tomorrow, I'll see if I can see the name of the other shop. SWERD!

Hey terceldude, that sounds like a great program you are taking! What does the program train you for? Are you planning on being a Toyota technician? Sounds like you'll learn lots of interesting things either way. Good luck with it!terceldude wrote: GTSSportCoupe, did you know that I am now taking classes at MassBay Community College Ashland Campus in MA, and I am taking the TOYOTA program offered there. Well, I'm in the Front Range Community College program offered for automotive service. Practiced with turning drums today. A little more intense than one might think. More to it than just spanking a drum on a lathe.
My instructor this semester is maybe high 30's. Just guessing, he won't tell. Again, age is no excuse. He's a Double Master Mechanic. ASE Master Auto and ASE Master Heavy Truck (or was it Heavy Diesel... Well, Heavy something) He's a VW buff and knows just about anything to do with anything under the car. Well, he knows a lot in many places, but suspension, brakes, and drivetrain are his specialties.
Next semester, I work under a mid 50's (again, guessing) Double Master. ASE Master Auto and ASE Master School Bus (yes, Master School Bus) and he will be educating us on engines and electrical primarily. He breaks into emissions and the likes for a bit, but it is only a 2-hour-per-day program, so it isn't massively indepth. The latter instructor was also a Toyota mechanic for some years and saw the full production of the Tercel 4wd. He knows those cars inside and out. "Those little boxes hold a special place in my heart.... They made me more money than just about anything else. Especially those transmissions." to quote him. He believes very strongly that the Tercel 4wd would have lived on very very strong had Toyota put EFI in it and retooled for a 2nd generation. He is really anxious to see a 4AGE swap.
The other instructors are another double Master in his, probably low 40's. He loves Super-Sport Bikes and restoring Triumph's as far as I can tell from limited interaction. Used to be a VW tech as well.
The head instructor is a Triple Master. ASE Master Auto, ASE Master Machinist... And the 3rd is gone from my head.
Between the instructors there is a massive wealth of knowledge to tap into, no doubt about that.
They keep asking if I'm bored... I've co-taught 4 days so far (lol) because a lot of the stuff is review. No, I'm not meaning to brag, as there are other kids in there with some review as well. 2 others in particular have co-taught a few times as well. Though I will brag that I was the only one that knew the way a variable reluctance ABS sensor worked..... heh

Actually, my teacher is about 60y.o. The program trains me all the safety and maintenance procedures to repair Toyota's, Lexus' and Scion's. It will train me to be able to incorporate these skills when I work at a TOYOTA dealership, eventually. I'm nervous about working at the dealership. I will brag, though, that I will make maybe $10-40K in this occupation! That is enough for me to import JDM Tercel 4wd's or whatever or bid on more YJ Auctions!!!!!! I passed one University of Toyota e-module and passed a SP/2 CCAR Greenlink module. I just have to do the rest and I will build my skills up. My teacher said if I go to the nearby and local NAPA Auto Parts Store and buy car parts from them and explain to them that I am a MassBay Toyota student currently in the program, I will get a discount on parts! These skills will help me repair my own Tercel 4wd, (that is, when I get another), and I will use some of my dad's tools if they are not worn and whatever ones I don't have, I'll buy from SNAP-ON. Should I show my teacher this JCWhitney catalog I have and ask him if the tools in there are good enough (high quality, price, etc.) for my work? These tools in the catalog look cheaper than these very expensive SNAP-ON or CRAFTSMAN or even TOYOTA's SPX Special Service Tools. So should I ask him?

Just buy CRAFTSMAN tools when they go on sale at Sears. They go on 1/2 price for huge sets here all the time. Not sure about your home town tho. Good luck with your school.terceldude wrote:Actually, my teacher is about 60y.o. The program trains me all the safety and maintenance procedures to repair Toyota's, Lexus' and Scion's. That sounds like an excellent program. I wonder how the college managed to attract such good guys from industry? I guess the must just like teaching over being in a high pressure shop environment.
