Toyota Tercel 2nd-Gen Color & Spec Chart

Post by scionlife »

Image

Here is the color and spec chart for the US-Spec Tercel from 1983-1986. If you see an error please post it here and I will correct the page and graphic ASAP. You can upload a photo of your car to the site by clicking on the above graphic, then clicking on the appropriate camera icon next to your color.

I will make updates on the chart within a day of any errors or additions posted. To confirm or add your color to the chart just post a photo or description of your car along with the model year (or production date) and the color code. The three-character color code can be found on the production information affixed to the car. On newer cars it is usually on a label in the driver's side door jamb. On older cars it is usually on a metal plate attached to the firewall near the back of the engine compartment.

As you can see, I don't yet have the illustration of this generation Tercel. To create the illustration I need a GOOD high-resolution photo of a car taken exactly from the side, about level with the height of the door handle, taken far enough from the car that it doesn't get wide-angle distortion. I would prefer the car to be the 5-dr variant, but I am not gonna be too picky.

If you have a decent (4+ MP) camera and a Tercel at your disposal then shoot the photo and either post a link here (it should be very large, so make sure you only post a link, not actually place the photo in the topic) or email it to me: darren@scionlife.com. Thanks!

Thats a great looking website you have got there Darren, very clean, are you a profesional web designer by trade?

If you need a quick example of the cat probably the clearest you may get will be at the Tercel4wd.com website in the downloadable brochures section. If not I will try and get one to you soon.

Chassis number of the Tercel 4wd is AL25 not AL21 which is the 2wd Tercel wagon.

Cheers,
Matt

Picked it up as a hobby years ago. Did a couple years as a freelance designer, now I just design sites for myself. Got sick of client demands, I know exactly what I want!

I did have someone send me a 5-dr and I put that on the chart... but since the wagon overlaps to generations I think I may seperate it from the 2WD cars... so if someone can send me a high-res side shot of the wagon I will get it illustrated and on it's own chart.

Oops. Fixed it.

Added those two onto the chart, thanks. I guess that means that the AL21 was offered through 87? That confuses me because it was my understanding that the EL31 series Tercels went on sale in 87. I can understand the 4WD wagon being held over for a couple of years, but the 3-dr?

Also guys, the page URL recently changed to:

Here's my understanding of it...

'83 thru '86 AL21 2WD sedans
'83 thru '88 AL25 4WD wagons
'83 thru '87 AL21 2WD wagons

So '86 was the last year of the sedans, '87 the last year of the 2WD wagons and '88 the last year of the 4WD wagons

I can confirm from previous ownership that the 4th generation pickup (79-93) had the same paint code for white (033) all the way through. I had a '79 and a roommate had an '83, both white, both the same paint code.

Hope that helps some.

Hi There. Newest member on site: brought to you from Denmark, DKWiechert.
Proud owner of an '89 Tercel 4wd wagon.
Someone posted here that 4wd wagons stopped in '88.

Mine has the old 4-AF engine (4 cylinder 16 valve, with 95 HP and NO injection. and a 5 speed manual tranni and of course difflock.) in europe called model AE95, however apparently only Toyota knows about this specific model, cant find spareparts for it anywhere, now looking abroad.

I've seen a picture of an american tercel, a little different from the european/japanese versions by the way, in VERY dark green metallic or pearl, almost black in the shade! Has anyone here any idea what color that could have been? looked GREEAAT!!
Thank you
