Cool. Did you raise the compression any? Should help with ping?
Some people doing these claim gains of over 50% in mpg...but they do the grooves..compression...lines in intake...port matching...etc.

Actually that is my workplace. but do have a garage at home. not as much room at work though. Trouble is all my tools are at work so kind of stuck working on it there.
Hopefully It will be runningn by the end of the week. Diesel prices are killing me.

Well I am in the process of pulling that pretty orange block out as I mentioned elsewhere in a thread that it ran for 5 minutes and then as I discovered in pulling it back out a connecting rod nut or stud failed. Well the rod is now sticking out the side of the block under the # 4 piston... Ill take a pic when I get it out. will swap all the new parts over to the other block I have and then get it back into the Tercel. I do want to see how the porting worked.
Anyway I just got another project car which is really cool. its a 1997 Subaru Outback with 113K miles. Got it for $500 from a guy in Winter Park, CO. He put it into a ditch and busted up the front suspension and bumper etc. Haven't decided the fate of the Tercel yet. Depends how much my wife likes the outback once I get it fixed. If she decides she wants it we may sell her Saturn and then Ill keep the tercel for myself. If not then I will probably sell the tercel.

Well after all those cool Rebuild Pics I fugure you all would get a laugh from these. Thats what happens when you try doing it a little at a time over 6 months while it hides in the corner of your shop. Hoping to get it out and the new short block done this weekend...

Oh I could Kick myself............ If you look real close at the pic here that I took before i reinstalled the engine you can see that the #4 Connecting rod cap bolt does not have a NUT on it!!!!!!!!! Never again am I gonna try and do an engine at work during breaks and slow time..... Thats how I miss stupid stuff like this
That is definitely one of those mistakes I will only make once!!!! Thats for sure.... Oh well at least I have another good block sitting here. will just have to swap all the new seals and rings and gaskets over and clean and hone the cylinders. then clean everything up and put it back togather...

Oh man... Thats pretty...
I hope to get the actual rebuild done within a weekend or at least 1 week once all the parts are together. Only things I've taken slow are the machining bits. Like the crank and the block-boring.
My biggest issue is DEFINITLY going to turn into.... Where'd all my bolts go?

I use a permanent marker if I need to label the bolts.
I'm a genius.
Did I mention the time I took a bad trans out of a van and then got them mixed up and put the same POS back in? I was sort of dissapointed.

I secund the ziplock bags. They work for me.I have a way of packing wheel bearings inside one, too.A spiral notebook helps.
ARP is an outfit that makes certified aircraft grade bolts and studs for race cars.I bought a package for a smallblock Ford once. They roll a J form thread. They sent me a nice Christmas card for years.
They have a website and a great deal tech info on torque and torquing.
For example, bolts stretch a little as you torque them.Like bungee cords. On a rod bolt, bolt stretch is better than toque as a measurement, but the bolt needs to fall in a torque range or the bolt is failing. One overtoque can fail a bolt.Dry,oiled, and greased torque values are vastly different.
They do sell metric pieces.Whether they have Terc applications,I don't know.
