I bought a replacement vacuum advance unit off of ebay recently, even though I wasn't sure if it would fit on our cars (the listing said it was only for 1982 tercels, which didn't make any sense to me but still had me unsure about forking over so much cash for it). It arrived yesterday and I installed it so I wanted to give some info on it.
It does work like it should, advancing the timing the correct amounts. And it mostly fits, but the two upper ports are pointing in a lousy direction and blocked by the body of the distributor. Here's a pic.
The HAC port didn't matter to me because my car doesn't have HAC so I just capped it off. For the manifold vacuum port, I carefully bent it slightly after I took that pic so I could get the vacuum hose on it. The HAC port is shorter so it would be harder to bend if you needed to actually use it.

the ports are in a lousy spot as the first gens use an external coil style dizzy.

The vacuum unit is always on same spot but the vacuum ports can point to another direction, which is not always preferred. In worst case you may need to get a new longer vacuum hose because the old one could be just too short.
