If your "stock" carb idle is wacky and you do not know whether its just a bad carb, try this
1.Follow wires that run from carb to large green plug, disconnect plug, engine should die, if it does not then something is wrong with the primary solenoid on back of carb. If it died re-connect plug and go to #2.
2. Disconnect and plug all vacuum lines on carb, start the car, if carb is good it will idle normal and you need to look for vacuume leaks in the disconnected lines or maybe the lines are hooked up wrong. If it idles badly its the carb so replace or re-build.

carb won't idle nicely test
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
Re: carb won't idle nicely test
Can you take a pic of the green plug you are talking about?

four wires in plug
it has one red covered wire (electric choke)
the three others are black and black/white (two for one solenoid one for the other solenoid)
