I can use the 84 key to start my 81 if I fiddle enough, funny thing is the 84 key stays in the 81, but the 81 key falls out!
I have way too many tercel keys now

Could just be a worn tumbler. I remember the same thing when I was in the Supra community, many people could open other peoples cars with their Supra keys.

Re: Locked my keys in the Cel
it is a bit brutal but this happened to me the other day......
this would be an option if you are stranded with no help in site and dont want to break a window
if you rip off the drivers side door handle it will give you full access to the locking mechanism..
this will totally destroy your door handle mind you, and they are hard to find a replacement lol

Re: Locked my keys in the Cel
Just reading this old thread as my friend bent my key in the boot and almost snapped it. It doesn't open any of the doors but strangely works in the ignition. We tried a machine key cut but it didn't read the key so we took a hammer to it to straighten it out. Apparently the machine didn't read the key as it didn't have it on its system. I'm concerned that as the key is now cracked (slightly bent) the key cutter will not be able to make a good copy. What I the official toy key you were refering to. Is it some kind of universal key? Does anyone know a place to buy universal keys for an 83 4wd terc? Cheers

Re: Locked my keys in the Cel
So that was the only key you had?
I'd suggest trying to get a copy made and see what happens.
In the future always keep a few backup keys!

Yes basically :p such a plum haha
Re: Locked my keys in the Cel
I had to learn how to open one.No destruction is necessary, and its easy.I can't really describe it well enough to just do it,but what I did was go to another Tercel that I had access to,pull the interior panel, like I was changing a window regulator. Then I studied the linkage in the door lock mechanism. There is a way to use a wire hook on the linkage down inside the door.
Like my old Volvo 544 with 4wd.I seldom regret neversieze or threadlocker
