My 1984 tercel wagon 4wd

Post by 84terc4wd »

I bought this car on saturday and trailered it home. The story behind the little car is that when the gentleman purchased the car he got it off of a little old lady who wore out the original transmission, so he put a junkyard tranny in the car not realizing (and checking) the year of the car that he was pulling from. There is only 178000 miles on the engine and it shows, I pulled the cap off the air box and the carb still shined and the filter looked brand new. I was lucky enough to find a paper manual of this car for under $100. I plan on fixing the few rust spots that there are on the car and making it become my daily driver and yes thats everyday… the current things that the car needs that i noticed are; transmission, hatch struts(they hold when its warm), carb work, a gas tank, a drivers door plastic handle, and all of the mud dauber nests taken out. There are more nests than rust on this car lol. i do have to pull the door panels off the front doors because the drivers door you can only roll the window halfway down unless you roll it up a bit then it goes all the way down. and the passenger door outside lock is frozen but i think its a mud dauber nest built up….. well ill stop my rambling and upload some pictures.

Looks like a great car Should give you many years of service.
Remember if you have no luck with the tranny i have a good one but freight would be a killer.
Do you have any pick&pull yards close to you? that's a good source for parts

unfortunately no pick and pull yards are scarce around here due to scrap prices…. finding parts for a ford f150 are near impossible here so the tercel would be non existent. and if i don't find a proper tranny for a good enough price I will most certainly send you a message… question though how much does the transmission weigh?

A complete tranny is one hundred pounds easy probably more.
I have two local pick&pull yards close to me and pull parts for others on a regular basis.
There is only one t4 to pick from right now and it does have a tranny as well but it is a high mile one. Hatch struts might be ok on it.
if you would like me to go look for you make a list.

is that a shriner sticker on the hatch? my buddy bought a tercel from a shriner, had a similar sticker on it. must be a thing, haha.

If you are referring to the tranny I mentioned earlier in this thread I pulled it out of a 1984 and the miles were in the 160's ?
