There is one huge glaring omission in that article. Not only do they not work as well, they cost a lot more. They stick it to you twice, not just once.

Don't panic, I'm from the guvmint and I'm here to help.

I have been/will take extra good care of my old Chilton yellow spout cans. They actually get good money on ebay..

At the shop I use Eagle brand safety cans, they dispense like nobody's business!-http://compare.ebay.com/like/3307624111 ... s&var=sbar

a hundred dollars for a 5 gallon gas can?!?! The EPA is creating a cottage industry in old syle light bulbs, toilets and shower heads, now gas cans too!

The big nut to crack: is there a reasonably efficient way to separate out the ethanol out of the gasoline? what value would ethanol free gasoline have on the "after market" when the oil companies can no longer sell it?

Didn't pay that much, just posted the first link. Not sure if it was required, but our insurance company and fire inspector were impressed. They will also outflow any other can, time is money at the shop. The flex pipe just fits thru filler restrictors. Try even getting close to the filler with some of the new cans. It would be like a "Wisconsin air slam"(aggressively splash beer on your face while trying to get as much as you can down the hatch)

The "low flow" toilets have gotten better-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFlJRcUZ2GU

My showerhead was previously used to wash elephants!

So, just drill a vent hole in your EPA plastic gas can, and plug it with an appropriately sized natural cork, or one resistant to oil/gas. This will cost you an extra dollar at the most, and will restore not only your free flow of wonderful gasoline, but allow you to say that at least the can vent was "made in America".

Again! I'm seeing and thinking about this stuff all the time....

It's a product of using the fed/monopoly corp. merger to reinvent the wheel because the fed/monopoly corp merge killed any real progress in useful technology....but still needs to increase profits and growth. (got that?) :)

As general society (not represented here of course) gets dumber and dumber, it's easier and easier for these kinds of "improvements" to be made to perfectly fine products that organically improved up to their logical peak of utilitarian application.

I've been saying for years that American culture peaked around 85 in most sectors (okay. I'll extend it to 88 only because the T4wd was built until then) Then it went the way of "how can we build in failure and reg. compliance?"

Yes I'm serious.

Why not, oh, I don't know - 1903 instead of 1988?

recently went to a car show with a lot of interesting cars, including a lot hot rods and classic cars. looking at the innovations and advanced designs that came out of American car companies, before they became cronies of the government, I would say American industry peaked between about 1947 and 1958. For US car makers it was all down hill from there.

just think how much better the Tercel would be without all that crappy federal emissions control systems and those stupid, ugly and heavy bumpers?
