Several of the Administrators have noticed some really repugnant and very vile video and still photos being added to the ToolTalk Forum. These go far, far, beyond just links to various sites that we have recently endured - let alone the barrage of posts made in the latter half of 2006.
I had locked the Harbor Freight thread in TT, as noted in a post there, which was effective for a week + - but the spammers have discovered a way around this by initiating new threads.
As a stopgap, I have locked all of the existing threads in the TT Forum; we are awaiting advice/actions from icE, the Administrator.
> > > I was unable to lock the entire Forum however, so please bear with any more threads of this type which may appear in the TT Forum.
> > > It would probably be a good idea to not have impressionable folk around if you view anything in TT until we are able to resolve this.

EDIT - Instead of continuing to delete the threads, until we hear from icE, I tried editing them to keep the thread, but just show "Xs," on the theory that the poster may think the thread is still there with its original content. Maybe that will work ? ? ?

T4WD augury?

Thank you for keeping an eye on the posts everyone!
There is a new updated version of phpBB out, along with some new spam-fighting tools that would be very useful for all of us. I'll be installing the update over the weekend so don't be suprised if the forums are down for maintenance.
If those STILL don't work, then our last resort would be to review each person who registers individually, but I'm doubtful it will get to that point.
I'll keep you guys "posted"!

It turns out that the reason the spammers were adding to the Tool Talk Forum is that they were able to make new topics and/or add to existing topics as a Guest - unlike the other Forums, which require one to be a member.
Glad that Harbor Freight did not have a hidden meaning, or that the Forum's title was not a code word...
icE has fixed that, so that should take care of it - plus, he is making the changes mentioned in his previous message.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to send him a few bucks - link is on the Home page, or PM him; it IS work for him to maintain all of this - and he no longer has a T4WD, after all!
