idles up first before going down

Post by tercelcalgary »

hey guys.
every time i step on the gas it idles up and slowly comes back down. when i step on it only a little bit it goes up around 2000rpm and slowly returns to idle.
also i don't know if this is part of the problem it does not have very much power i can't redline 4th on the highway it won't go past 4000rpm. when starting from a stop it hesitates as if it was going to stall and then pulls away.
i assume a vacuum leak, the car was sitting for a while. maybe the fuel pump...i istalled one from the wrecker but i don't know if it's bad. it runs good on idle when warm and stars up ok.

thanx for your help :!:

I'd check all the vac lines and try road timing it by rotating the distributor. Look for a vac diagram and see it they are routed right? Adjust the carb idle and fast idle?
Give a boy a gun-give a biatch a cell phone-and pretty soon you almost got yourself a police state.
