How fast have any of you gone?
My record in the 86 was 109mph or so on the freeway (downhill of course)
My record in the 84 was at about 5800RPM in 4th gear, with stock-sized tires. I think that means about 106mph, maybe more.

This quote is from a post I made in June of last year about my new '83 SR5; the actual thread was about gas mileage, though.
" As far as top speed, some of the figures I've seen listed give me cause to wonder at the accuracy of speedos approaching (and passing) 20+ years and mileages of 200K +/-.
The best top I recall was something in the upper 80s, on the level in IL or IN with no winds, two people and negligible luggage aboard. I do remember that we kept waiting for the needle to pass 90, but it never did. The windows were closed, as it was Autumn. Mind, this was a then new car.
"

The best R&T got in its test of the new '83 was 85 in 5th (and also in 4th...) *; the best CandD got in its test of the '83 was 86. The later CandD Comparo test in 1985 achieved 88 mph.
* R&T got 4800 rpm in 4th and its best in 5th was 3900 rpm.

PS - typrus - Ahhh, the bravery of youth - to go 109 downhill mph in a 20 year-old car. And I think the downhill to which you are referring should be something more like downmountain in your neck of the woods.

on a slight downhill i got to 150KM/H which is probably right around that 80-something MPH mark.

I can get it to do 140 any day,

New record in the 84.
6000RPM in 4th... So about 109 mph. Remember, I have nothing to draft (break wind) and I have a 3AC. Stock 3AC.

on the 15s (195/65/15s) - I ran about 150 km/h (95 mph or so)

With the 13" steelies with studded winter tires on my way home from a TSD rally, the car loaded with equipment and people, the air filter full of mud and the exhaust ripped off by a large and menacing rock, I managed over 5000 rpm on the tach, and 171 km/h on the GPS :) (106.25 mph)

I'd like to see 110-115 mph with the cam/carb/exhaust mods.

lol
