Double coil springs
My parts car has a double stacked coil on the rear axle springs. Was this common? Or somebody did a mod? It's a 1984 4wd wagon.

Idago,
I’ve never heard of or seen this before. Definitely a modification by a previous owner.

+1 on Chris' comment. That's really weird. Did you ever drive that car, how did it feel? Probably very stiff in the back, I imagine.

Re: Double coil springs
Looks like "heavy duty" springs. I wonder if this Tercel has been used for goods transporting.
However there should be better ways for "heavy duty" suspension.

Re: Double coil springs
that is very inventive, not factory that I am aware of. perhaps someone's mod to make it suitable as a delivery wagon or something. it looks too good to be a shade tree modification, perhaps something the good'ol boyz came up with somewhere in the south.
Does it ride higher than normal? really curious how this works. seems they might squeak a lot when they rub together.

Re: Double coil springs
It's a parts car I towed home. I added Jeep Cherokee Springs on mine for about 2.5 inch lift. But this is among my discoveries for this car. Also has a 3A-U motor.
