Adjusting doors

Post by Mosquito »

My Tercel got "nudged" by a car when it was owned by the p.o., and the rear driver's side door is a bit tweaked, so it rubs on the rear wheel well when you open and shut it.

Are these doors adjustable? If so, what's the best way--loosening the bolts between the hinge and the body? Or between the hinge and the door?

I took a quick look, seems like the bolts between hinge and body are sealed with adhesive, so not sure how easily it can be adjusted.

I hope the door wasn't just plain bent. . . . .

The wonderful POS FSM shows the procedure for a presumably generic body type - no mention of anything special for the Wagon. I presume the drawing is in the '85 manual available for download, but if not, the instruction is straightforward, as one would imagine:
"Forward/rearward/vertical directions - loosen the body side hinge bolts."
"Left/right and vertical directions - loosen the door side hinge bolts."
I guess you just break the adhesive seal in some way and then carry on.
Hope this helps.
