I love everything about my new Weber carb, but can't help thinking how much more efficient my car would run if the carb wasn't sucking the hot air comming out the back of my radiator! <_<

Anyone have ideas on how to provide nice fresh cold air to the Weber carb?

I was thinking of a forward facing hood scoop, but was concerned about the amount of rain/snow that might come in while driving.

Another option is to try to fabricate some sort of aluminum intake duct to suck cold air in from the front of the car and provide it directly to the air filter of the carb.

Either option would be a fair amount of work.

Any ideas?

do teh same as i did cut a hole in your hood and put a hood scoop in it, works well and the sound of the carb is heard better
also raise the rear part of the hood a bit i helps ventilation
tercel 4wd custom suspension, under drive pulley, vented brakes, cold air intake, and plenty more to come

Does this work ok in heavy rain though? I'm afraid my carb will start sucking in too much water. Also, I'm concerned about the water running down around the carb too.

K&N make a plenum that attaches to the top of the Weber to allow snorkel attachment. You could take an intake pipe from the wheel well or down near the bumper with a filter on it.

I was thinking about it myself, but the hassle outweighed the advantages when I take the Tercel swimming.

Great info! Thanks! I think I'll look into this option. I imagine K&N charges a fair amount of $$ for the thing though, which may be prohibitive.

What about pulling air from the cowl area at the base of the windshield? Might have to cut a hole. :o

That's a higher pressure area...which is why they take the heater air from there.

Just run a "scoop" backwards to the rear of the hood?

Thats actually a very interesting idea. I'm going to have to look into it. I think I'll have to cut something no matter which way I go anyhow.

Thanks all!

Thanks for the pics! That is awesome! I'm going to have to remove the cowling on the tercel and see where I could connect into it. Thanks again.
