For the past week I've been sanding down and primering my car to send it in to get painted for a very VERY good price. My dad has a friend that works at a local Maaco. Color: Gunmetal Metalic (friend said it looks a little blueish in the sun)
It was incredibly cheap to sand, bondo, primer and do the door jams myself (its $100 PER door jam regularly)
Finishing pictures are at the bottom..
Total cost: $100
Having 0 Rust and an actual polishable paint: Priceless
Looks Good !
I like the deletion of the rub strips - like the yellow car of HomeSkool.
That was a lot of PITA masking you had to do, but ultimately worth it.
Boy, those '87 headlights clean up the front end!

Terkill, that looks great! Good on you for investing the time, money and energy to do a nice job. Sanding and taping are really important (brother used to do show quality work on old Brit cars, so I know the drill). Very few of these funky tercels get this treatment those that do are survivors.
Love it!
She looks CLEAN!
I love the scoop. My car had a scoop on it be for I bought it....
My friend was about to buy this tercel off Craigslist for $200 about 4 years ago now, he showed me all the pictures. the thing looked terrible, looked like it had a body kit, and a scoop. but for $200 i told him to buy it. well then his family gave him a car for free. so he gave up on getting the tercel. A year later I bough my car, from Craigslist for $80 not running and a total pile of crap. my friend sees it, and its unique paint job (it was covered in primer except for under the doors and a spot on the hood that looked like it had a scoop) he pulled out his lap top and found the picture still on the computer from the year before when he was going to buy the tercel and sure enough, my tercel was the car he almost bought, it had the same license plate. and the spots missing primer were the same spots where it once had its scoop and body kit.
Oh BTW some of the body kit was in the car, it was rain gutter for a house!
I'm glad to see your car getting the love that so many Tercels need!
And I do love the scoop. I'm glad to see someone do it right!
My first car was a Tercel, and I'm still driving a Tercel, some people say I need an Intervention.
Haha yes, thanks, Colour! I'm not sure how many coats he did, but he used a special finishing coat on the bumper so the paint can bend, a rubberized clear-coat or something of that sorts...
yeah , i used to get paint job years ago from maaco , it was cheap indeed , i sand and primer and sand too , BUT last time i got paint done before i drove away from maaco , there was couple dents on my van and told him that was new dents, he said no then i proved to him had pictures and some has new paint crack , he knew i got him then said to me "hey !! what do you expect , as least you got a good deal on paint" well yeah but i have to fix the dents and return back sure another $150 small spots , but i didnt , i just let him go , the question is , sure i would bring my car to maaco again because do my self will cost me over $300 0n equipment, paint and ?? before you get it painted take picture of your car first at front of the maaco building
