So that "crud" in the master is a perfect example of why you should change your brake fluid every 2-3 years.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs water and holds it in suspension, this trait will reduce the chance of rusting caused by the particulate falling out of suspension in the fluid, unless of course the fluid doesn't get changed. When it falls out it, collects at all the low points in the system and creates a perfect environment for oxidation (moisture rich dirt and raw metal are always a bad combination).
The collection of that crud does 3 things, it promotes rusting where the accumulations occur and works like sandpaper on any moving parts.
It also lowers the boiling point of the fluid and is usually the cause of brake fade, boiling fluid is very bad!

The fact that the crud was in there and you saw seepage indicates the piston was moving through this crud and the seals are now compromised.
Just because they "look" good doesn't mean they will be effective at sealing under high pressure, though they will probably work fine most of the time.
Problem here is, when they start to leak, will be under high load, think panic stop, definitely not the time to have the brakes fail.

Get a rebuild kit. As Petros said, they are cheap and also some of the best insurance you can buy.
They are still available through the dealer.

Now that you know what the master looks like, make sure you overhaul the other parts you have salvaged from the same car as you know that crude will have been pushed through the entire system, and the callipers will definitely have the same build-up contained within.

I do not recall, but it is smaller dia than stock Tercel master. Smaller dia gives you better braking advantage, larger one would not be useful. all of the first generation MR2 have smaller dia as far as I know, perhaps you have a master from a second gen master?

Petros,

My brakes are on there last legs and I figured it would be a good time to do the brake upgrade. I can get all of the MR2 parts and vented disks no problem, however I don't have the tools or skills to create the spacers. Any chance you would be willing to make me a set of spacers for the same set up you laid out in this post? If so just shoot me a price. Thanks, hope to talk to you soon.

synth has them for a good price. I do not have time for side projects for several weeks right now. the last I checked with synth he had a small inventory of them. I will phone him see what he has available since it does not always check in on the forum every week.

when you need brakes it is a good time to do the upgrade. No point in paying for new parts that are marginal, might as well put in the better stuff while you are at it. You will not regret the upgrade.

Upgraded to 15'' rims and wore them out quick. I'm sure this will help a ton. Thanks a ton, I will try synth but let me know if you reach him before I do.

They were some all black 5 spoke ebay specials. Cheap and kind of heavy but the quality seems pretty good and they look good. I can get the brand if you are interested.

Here are some up close shots of the front and back. You will just have to imagine them clean and thawed. Car hasn't moved in a month waiting for my brake parts to show up. Effect Wheels is the brand, pretty cheap on ebay. Fit 205/60/15's on these babies with no rub and no issues (aside from premature brake wear!).

I should also add that I added some wheel hub centric rings behind these to reduce stress on the lug nuts, as the wheel inner diameter was larger than the hubs outer diameter. Size was 67mm OD x 54.06 mm ID and they fit perfectly. Stock lugs wouldn't work with these wheels either so had to pick up some thinner security lugs. Haven't had any issues for over a year now.

So, probably a stupid question, but is there any reason I can't do this upgrade in two parts. First do the calipers, rotors, spacer, and lines. Then later do the bake booster and master cylinder?
