► Factory Service Manual, NEW STUFF ◄

Post by Neu »

Well not really new, but some new interested ways to look at it.

I have converted the full manual to HTML. It's pretty awesome, I didn't think it'd look that nice in the long run.

Anyway, the full PDF and full html are available at http://tercel4wd.com/fsm/1985_Manualindex.html

To view the HTML version find the index page, I'll make it easier when it's all done uploading.

How about making it (or this thread) a sticky in Repair Guides?

Ok I have been driving subarus and recently got myself a 500 dollar 1987 Tercel wagon. My question here is: Will this manual be sufficient for my 1987 or should I get a manual for the Third Gen. Tercel (87 - 94)

My Tercel: 1987 Wagon SR5, 6-speed manual, 3ac motor
Projects: Replace Wheel bearing/Axle assembly, Alignment, Get heater working (probably blower motor), Rebuild Carb

Save for some cosmetic changes, the '87 and '88 Wagons are still Gen II, as compared to the sedans of the same years, which are Gen III.
So - stay with the FSM here.

hey there , i just swapped an engine in my '83 SR5.i went from a 3AC to a 3A L 73WMK (Or at least that is what it says it says on valve cover) I am not sure if this manual will work since I think its a California version .I think .will this manual save me from Terce-hell ?I have to move in 5 days I need her royal highness "the tercy" back on the road to help in the exodus . thanks. the reason for the manual is she turns over but either fizzes out or surges.
I used to laugh at the man with a pinto  , until I became a humble servicer of a tercel :|

welcome, gnarnold. the different letter designations on each engine don't mean much. usually they refer to the emissions package that came with that engine, and all of the different emissions stuff is covered in the FSM anyway.

for specific repair questions, please post them in the appropriate section so it will be easier for everyone to find in the future.

welcome to the forum Justin,

the manual will work fine for you expcet perhaps some of the color coding on the wires. all procedures are the same. make sure you search the repair guild section for more detailed instructions for many repair procedures.

With your '87 always be careful when ordering parts, cross check the part number with an '85 Tercel4wd wagon because often the parts catalog assumes you will have the 3rd generation Tercel and you get the wrong parts. the '87 Tercel sedan is a different car, different engine, diffrent trans (transverse installation), different suspension, etc. Not much is interchangeable.
