wiring harness/fuse box compatibility question

Post by toledo »

does anyone know if a main/engine harness and fuse box off of an 1986 4x4 sr5 will work on a 1983 4x4 SR5?

it would problably work, but the problem you will have is they changed colors on some of the wires, and sometimes the connections too. I think the actual engine harness should be the same, I can not think of any differences there, except perhaps the wires to the air conditioner.

swapping a connector should not be a problem, or what I did once (after a small engine fire that melted the engine harness) was just use the contacts without the plastic connector, and just plunged them into the other side of the connector. So only half the connector was there, but the other side had the metal contacts and wires plugged in correctly. bit of a chore when ever I pull it apart to make sure I get them back in the correct place, but it has ran that way for 8 or 9 years.
